Fukuoka Tenjin Motsunabe Restaurant Recommendation
Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Branch
You can't visit Fukuoka without trying Motsunabe! This iconic hot pot dish is a true Fukuoka specialty, packed with delicious beef offal (like small and large intestines), fresh chives, and various vegetables, all simmered in a rich, savory broth.
While Tenjin Station boasts many fantastic Motsunabe restaurants, I opted for Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Branch, a favorite among both locals and international visitors.

Location

Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Branch is about a 10-minute walk from Tenjin Station and a 7-minute walk from Tenjin-Minami Station. It's also conveniently close to Parco Department Store.

I was debating between Ichifuji Tenjin and the main branch, but I chose this one because it's right next to a Don Quijote, making it perfect for some post-dinner shopping.

With its distinctive red accents and prime location right next to Don Quijote, it's incredibly easy to spot. You'll find it on the second floor of the building.
Reservations

Even during peak dinner hours, the restaurant felt spacious with plenty of seating. I made a reservation via Google Maps, but honestly, it didn't seem strictly necessary.

I visited solo, and it was a little awkward as all the tables were set for four!
The seating is traditional Japanese style (zashiki), so you'll store your shoes in a locker at the entrance before heading in.

Along the aisle, there's a station with various sauces, all complimentary, where you can mix your own custom dipping sauce.

I'd heard ordering was via QR code, but during my visit, you had to press a call button for your initial order, with subsequent additions handled through the QR code.
Menu

Since many international visitors frequent this spot, they had an English menu readily available at the table.
Most people order a course meal, but since I was dining alone, I just went for the single Motsunabe portion, adding Champon noodles and silken tofu.
Motsunabe

Here's the single Motsunabe portion. Even without ordering extra, the amount of chives was incredibly generous!

Perhaps because I was dining alone, a staff member kindly came over to light the burner and gently stir the offal and vegetables, ensuring they soaked up all that delicious broth.
Just let it simmer until the chives wilt a bit, then it's ready to enjoy!

I also ordered an Orange Chuhai. It was pleasantly sweet and refreshing, not too alcoholic – perfect with the meal.

While it's a single serving, the portion size is surprisingly substantial. However, a hungry adult male might find the meat portion a tad small.

Some reviews mentioned the offal being tough, but I found it perfectly tender and flavorful, having absorbed the broth beautifully.
And speaking of the broth – it's incredibly deep and rich! I'd return just for that amazing soup.

Once I'd almost finished the offal, I added the Champon noodles and tofu. Eating it like Nagasaki Champon makes for a truly satisfying and filling meal!

A quick note: I'd seen older reviews mentioning pressure to leave Google reviews, but I experienced absolutely none of that during my visit.
Initially, I hesitated because of those comments, but I figured a restaurant wouldn't maintain a 4.8-star Google rating if the food wasn't genuinely good, even with encouragement. My visit was ultimately fantastic! If you're looking for an amazing Motsunabe spot in Fukuoka, I highly recommend Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Branch.
