The spot is called 老戳子肉海鲜大排档 (中山路店), pronounced Lǎo Chuōzi Ròu Hǎixiān Dàpáidàng. Roughly translated, it means 'Old Chuozi Meat Seafood Food Stall' – and it truly lives up to its name, offering authentic Qingdao-style iron plate stir-fries and fresh seafood.

Exterior & Interior Ambiance

Stepping inside, the first thing that caught my eye was the impeccably organized display of fresh seafood, ready to be cooked. It's always a good sign when you can see the quality of the ingredients upfront!

The menu was easy to navigate, featuring clear images of all the dishes, which certainly helped in making our selections.

The interior is quite spacious, making it a great option for families or larger groups.

On a nice day, you can also enjoy your meal at their outdoor seating area. The weather was perfect during my visit, so I snagged a table outside!

The Ordering Process

Once seated, we were immediately given packaged cutlery. What impressed me was that, unlike other restaurants, the staff personally came over to rinse our utensils with hot water right at the table. They explained it was to remove any dust, and even gave a thumbs-up when I filmed them – a great start to the meal!

Ordering is typically done via a QR code at each table, but recognizing we were international visitors, the staff kindly brought us a paper menu. (I've marked my selections with arrows on the images!)

When we started ordering a lot, the owner even used a translator to ask if we’d prefer to order less first and add more later, as the portions might be too big. Talk about honest service!

After taking our order, they used the translator again to confirm, saying, "If it's not to your liking, we'll make you a fresh one." This level of attentiveness and hospitality truly made me want to recommend this place even more!

(Though, I'm pretty adventurous with food, so there was no need for a redo!)

The Dishes We Ordered

For our feast, we ordered the Clams Stir-Fry, Grilled Shrimp, Pork Belly Stir-Fry, and a couple of beers, totaling ~$26. The portions here are seriously generous – if you're a couple, two dishes should be more than enough!

How Was the Pork Belly Stir-Fry?

The Pork Belly Stir-Fry was incredibly abundant. I requested a medium spice level, but since it was stir-fried with cumin, the heat was quite subtle – more aromatic than fiery.

The pork belly had a perfect balance of lean meat and fat, giving it a rich, savory flavor that wasn't overly aggressive. The vegetables stir-fried with it were perfectly cooked, retaining a delightful crunch.

How Was the Grilled Shrimp?

The shrimp arrived beautifully reddish and stir-fried in their shells, looking incredibly appetizing. Peeling them revealed sweet, succulent meat. The oil used was clearly fresh, as there was absolutely no greasy aftertaste.

It reminded me a bit of a savory shrimp fritter or pan-fried shrimp, and I'd definitely recommend it to any shrimp lovers out there!

How Was the Clams Stir-Fry?

The Clams Stir-Fry arrived in a generous pool of broth – and I have to say, this was the absolute highlight of our meal. It had a fantastic garlicky base with a hint of chili, providing a subtle kick that was incredibly addictive.

The clam meat itself was wonderfully tender, soaking up all the savory-sweet goodness of the sauce. I just couldn't stop reaching for more!

There was also a subtle, buttery richness that made it the perfect pairing for a cold beer. I can confidently say this was one of the best clam stir-fries I've ever had!

Additional Order (Egg Fried Rice)

After all that deliciousness, we were craving some carbs, so we ordered the Egg Fried Rice. It cost ~$3 and was a huge portion, easily enough for 3-4 people. It was perfectly savory and fluffy, complementing the other dishes beautifully.
