- Ideal for couples seeking a budget-friendly base to explore Zhanqiao and the city.
When planning our trip to Qingdao, we knew we wanted to spend a day exploring the area around Zhanqiao Pier. So, we decided to book a stay right in front of it at the Yitel Collection hotel. Let me tell you, it's an absolute gem for value!
The official English name of the place we stayed is Yitel - Qingdao Railway Station Zhanqiao Seaview Hotel, and in Chinese, it's 和颐至尚-青岛火车站栈桥海景酒店. You might see slight variations on booking sites, like Yitel Collection Qingdao Zhanqiao or Qingdao Railway Station Zhanqiao Seaview Branch. Just know that the specific branch we're talking about is at 35 Lanshan Road, right in front of Qingdao Station Exit G.
The bottom line? It was an excellent choice, and we'd happily stay there again!

Check-in

First things first:
To get from the check-in desk to the guest room elevators, you'll need to go up a short flight of stairs. If you're traveling with heavy luggage or have difficulty with stairs, this might be a minor inconvenience.

Agoda only listed Chinese as a supported language, so I was a little worried. However, we managed with basic English, and the staff were excellent at using translation apps, so check-in was smooth. They really light up if you try speaking a little Chinese!
If you need a local Chinese phone number for things like food delivery, you can even borrow one from the front desk.
Currently, the hotel's official policy is check-in after 2:00 PM / check-out before 12:00 PM! We actually checked in at 3:00 PM / checked out at 12:00 PM.
The Room

The first thing that struck us when we opened the door was how incredibly spacious it felt for two people! There was plenty of room to move around beside the double bed, and across from it, a long desk and TV. It never felt cramped, even with both our suitcases for an overnight stay.

The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the bedding was perfectly fine. We each had two pillows, and they were on the softer, lower side, which I personally found very comfortable!
I'd been a bit concerned about potential cigarette smoke, as is sometimes the case in Chinese hotels, but I'm happy to report there was absolutely no smell in our room. Cleanliness and soundproofing were also good. We could easily adjust the air conditioning to our liking.

One thing to note: this particular room had no window. There were curtains, and we pulled them back, only to find... no actual window! For us, this wasn't an issue as we only needed a place to sleep at night. However, if you plan to spend a lot of time in your room during the day, or if natural light and ventilation are important to you, you might want to avoid a windowless room. (Though, if those are top priorities, a five-star hotel might be a better fit anyway!)
Bathroom and Amenities

The bathroom came with a toothbrush set, basic packaged amenities, and soap. Nothing super luxurious to write home about, but definitely everything you'd need for an overnight stay!

The bathroom itself featured a sink, toilet, and a glass-enclosed shower stall. Water pressure and drainage were perfectly adequate, and we had no complaints.
There weren't any delivery robots here, but when we ordered food, the delivery person brought it right to our room. You can also ask the front desk to hold deliveries if you prefer.
According to the hotel's information, there are also shared beverage areas, a self-service laundry room, and paid breakfast options. We didn't actually use any of these, so we'll skip reviewing them! The business area was located on the 6th floor, where we stayed.

Location
Honestly, the main reasons we chose this hotel were its proximity to Zhanqiao Pier and its excellent transport links! On the map, it's about 0.2 miles (a 5-minute walk) to Zhanqiao, but in reality, you just step out and you're practically there!
Qingdao Railway Station subway stop is also right outside, so during peak traffic times, we took Line 3 to get to places like MixC Mall or May Fourth Square.
If your itinerary involves walking around the Zhanqiao area and taking the subway to other parts of the city, this location is incredibly convenient.
One small tip for taxis: it was easier to call one from the hotel's back entrance. There isn't a super convenient crosswalk right in front of the main entrance, so we'd head out the back when we needed a ride.

Conclusion: Recommended / Not Recommended
Recommended
We visited during China's National Day holiday, when other hotels were incredibly expensive. Even paying ~$91 for one night, I was thoroughly satisfied, considering the holiday pricing! But get this: the lowest price on Agoda for a typical night is actually around ~$22...
Not Recommended
If you're like us and just need a comfortable, well-located place to crash after exploring the Zhanqiao area all day, the advantages of its location and room condition far outweigh any minor drawbacks! Seriously, discovering it's typically a ~$22 hotel room makes me almost sad we paid more, but it was still totally worth it even at our higher price. Knowing the usual rate just makes it an even better find!
Despite that minor revelation, we still highly recommend it!
