The best vantage point to capture Qingdao's cityscape, the shimmering blue sea, and those vibrant red rooftops all in one glance!

It's the Taiping Mountain Cable Car (太平山观光索道).

Honestly, before I rode it,

I hesitated a bit, wondering if taking a cable car was really necessary.

But seriously, what would I have missed if I hadn't gone?

The views were incredibly stunning,

making me regret even a moment of hesitation, haha!

Especially riding late in the afternoon, going through the whole course,

and then witnessing the sunset view on the way down—

it was absolutely breathtaking! T_T

Today, I'll walk you through everything: from the optimal route for a fulfilling round trip (4 rides!)

starting from the middle station, how to pay for those 'photo of a lifetime' shots,

and even a walking path to enjoy Zhongshan Park after you descend.

Let's dive in!

1. Taiping Mountain Cable Car Location & 4-Ride Round Trip Course (Starting from the Middle Station!)

The cable car stations are divided into three main locations:

Zhongshan Park Station (中山公园站) on Gaode Map,

the middle station, Taiping Mountain Station (太平山站),

and Zhanshan Temple Station (Botanical Garden) (植物园站).

Operating Hours: 09:00 ~ 17:30 , but

there's a possibility of changes,

so make sure to board before 5 PM to be safe!

Cable Car Prices

Round Trip (4 rides) : 150 CNY, ~$22

One Way : 80 CNY, ~$12

I purchased a round-trip ticket (valid for 4 rides in total),

so I started my journey at the centrally located 'Taiping Mountain Station'!

Starting from the middle, I first headed towards the

upper TV Tower (Qingdao TV Tower),

then came back down and moved towards the lower Zhongshan Park Station.

From above, you get a panoramic view of charming walking paths,

the expansive Qingdao sea,

and a blend of red-tiled roof buildings with modern high-rises... It's absolutely insane, truly! 👍

Once you've made your reservation and received the QR code,

you just scan it when you board!

Definitely make a reservation in advance!

On-site purchases require a local phone number,

making payment impossible without assistance from a local staff member. So, pre-booking is a must!

2. Strongly Recommend Riding at Sunset! Prepare for Breathtaking Sunset Views & Panoramas

If it's not too crowded, I highly recommend

sitting separately from your travel companion for a bit

and taking photos of each other!

It's super fun to ride in those red-roofed cable cars

and capture some great shots of one another!

Honestly, before I rode it,

I'd already visited other observation decks in Qingdao, so I thought,

"Isn't it just another common observatory view?"

But once I actually rode it, with the gentle breeze

and the thrilling experience, the view was on a whole new level!

Especially when we boarded late in the afternoon, completed the whole course,

and then were on our way down for the descent,

it hit the perfect sunset timing.

My friend and I kept exclaiming how amazing and beautiful it was,

wondering what we would've missed if we hadn't gone! We were just so excited, haha!

The sunset view during that time was absolutely stunning,

but I was so bummed that the photos just couldn't capture its true beauty! ㅠㅠ

We got off at each point to take photos and go for walks, you know?

Even just a round trip on the cable car would have been totally worth it,

but getting to stroll around, take pictures, and immerse ourselves in nature

made it even BETTER!

3. Essential Tip! Cable Car Photo Ops & Alipay Payment (Strongly Recommend Both Up & Down Photos!)

You absolutely *must* buy the cable car souvenir photos!

Alipay payment is available, & I recommend buying both the ascent and descent photos!

As you go up and down the cable car,

they take commemorative photos of you at designated photo points

along the way!

When you get off and check them, the Qingdao backdrop

in the photos turns out absolutely stunning! You'll be amazed, haha!

Even though it's a local Chinese photo service,

you can pay on the spot directly with **Alipay**,

making it super convenient to purchase.

The photos taken on the way up and the way down

have completely different background vibes,

so don't be shy!

I highly recommend buying **both photos** from your ascent and descent

to keep as souvenirs!

4. Zhongshan Park Picnic & 1/4 Photo Studio: Our Route After Disembarking

Another fun part about the Qingdao Taiping Mountain Cable Car is that

you actually have to use your own weight to push down the safety bar,

don't you?

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

It's just thrillingly fun and hilarious! 😆

Chatting away with friends and snapping photos,

even taking some slightly 'outdated' MZ-style shots... haha!

As you soak in the views,

you'll arrive at the spot where the last descending cable car brings you down:

the **Zhongshan Park (中山公园) boarding station**!

Behind you, the Qingdao TV Tower proudly stands tall,

and as you exit, a lush green park unfolds before your eyes.

Watching locals spread out their mats on the grass

and leisurely enjoy picnics, I walked through the park :)

After your stroll through the park, your itinerary would be absolutely perfect if you move directly to Qingdao's famous
