Recommended Souvenirs from Qingdao, China

With the extension of visa-free travel to China, it seems like even more people
are heading to Qingdao, China for their adventures!
Today, I'm excited to share the highlight of any trip: a recommended
Qingdao souvenir shopping list.
We absolutely loved shopping in Qingdao – so much so that we filled a whole
compartment of our 30-inch suitcase with souvenirs!
Below, I'll introduce each item briefly.
1. Snacks
The first snack I want to introduce is Pretz.
You can easily find them everywhere, from convenience stores to supermarkets.
Among them, I highly recommend the Mala Lobster flavor!
After trying the Mala Lobster flavor in Qingdao, I wanted to find it in other Chinese cities,
but I haven't been able to yet, which is a bit disappointing.
I hope you pick up some unique flavors not available back home, like the pizza or Mala Lobster flavors!
Next up are Lay's potato chips.
The Lay's I picked up came in a three-pack set, including
cucumber, avocado, and original flavors!
The moment I tasted the cucumber and avocado flavors, it was truly an eye-opening experience.
Both flavors were subtly present alongside the potato chip taste, making them incredibly delicious.
I couldn't even pick a favorite between the cucumber and avocado flavors; both were perfectly suited to my taste!
I really regret only buying one of each.
The last snack on our list is Oreo.
In Qingdao, I found so many interesting and unique Oreo flavors I hadn't tried before,
including peach, fig, and "shooting star" (pop rocks) flavors.
The prices weren't too high either, making them perfect for gifts for friends and family.
2. Tea
The second item on our recommended list is various types of tea.
Due to China's rich cuisine, tea culture is much more developed here than coffee.
As I'm not a tea expert, I picked up some reasonably priced
pear tea and Pu'er tea from the Aeon Mall supermarket.
Even though they weren't expensive teas, the aroma was lovely, and they're perfect for a warm cup in winter.
I gave some to my parents, and they really enjoyed it too.
3. Meal Kits, Chinese Glass Noodles
Next, I'll introduce meal kits and Chinese glass noodles.
First of all, supermarkets in China offer a
huge variety of meal kits,
and their quality is surprisingly high.
I decided to try a potato noodle meal kit, and I ended up thinking, 'I should have bought more!'
It suited my taste perfectly!
With potato noodles, tofu, enoki mushrooms, seaweed, and more,
the quality was comparable to the potato noodles you'd find in a local Chinese restaurant!
If you happen to discover this potato noodle meal kit,
I definitely recommend grabbing it.
Following that, I'll introduce Chinese glass noodles.
You can add them to the meal kits I mentioned earlier, or
These glass noodles are great to enjoy with delivery foods like Yeopdduk (spicy tteokbokki) and Mala Tang.
They need to be soaked longer than you might expect to become soft,
so I recommend soaking them well in advance before you plan to eat them.
4. Sunflower Seeds
Our fourth shopping list item is sunflower seeds.
These sunflower seeds are one of my longtime favorite snacks that I used to enjoy back when I was a student abroad.
What makes these different from regular sunflower seeds is that the shells are also seasoned with a savory flavor.
You'll find yourself hooked on the flavor and keep eating them as you crack them open.
These sunflower seeds are perfect as a snack with beer,
making them a great gift for your parents too.
5. Milk Tea
Our fifth shopping list item is milk tea from a convenience store!
While milk tea can be quite expensive in Korea,
Qingdao offers affordable beverages, so you can stock up on several without breaking the bank, even at convenience stores.
Just a heads-up, they're 450ml, so they can get pretty heavy!
However, if you're a milk tea lover like me,
I highly recommend them because they're absolutely delicious!
6. Gaoliangjiu (Sorghum Liquor)
I picked up two affordable bottles of Gaoliangjiu to sample.
First up is a Baijiu (white liquor) with 'Qingdao' written on the bottle.
The price was less than ~$7.
I haven't tasted it yet as I'm keeping it at home, but since it says 'Qingdao,' it'd make a great souvenir.
This is a Baijiu called Liangyatai, which I picked up for 88 yuan.
Even though it was quite affordable at around ~$12, it was smooth with a pleasant aroma, making it easy to drink.
I've just shared some recommended souvenirs worth shopping for, which can be a highlight of your trip to Qingdao.
From essential snacks to tea, sunflower seeds, meal kits, and even Gaoliangjiu (sorghum liquor)!

The Lay's potato chips purchased in Qingdao came in a set of three different flavors: cucumber, avocado, and original. The cucumber and avocado flavors were particularly impressive.
At Aeon Mall, we purchased pear tea and Pu-erh tea, both at reasonable prices. They are not expensive, have a pleasant aroma, and are good for drinking warm in winter.
The potato noodle meal kit from Qingdao offered high quality, similar to the potato noodles eaten at local restaurants. It was satisfying, including ingredients like tofu, enoki mushrooms, and seaweed in addition to the potato noodles.
'Liangyatai' Baijiu was purchased for 88 yuan. This is approximately ~$12.
