During my student days in China, Lanzhou Lamian was a place I frequented often.
When I planned my trip to Qingdao, I wondered if I could find a Lanzhou Lamian branch there – and luckily, I did!
Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Lanzhou Lamian, a local gem in Qingdao that's bursting with authentic flavor and generous portions, perfect for any traveler seeking a genuine culinary experience!

Lanzhou Lamian 中国兰州拉面(浮山所路) Operating Hours: 08:30 AM - 10:00 PM Location: 青岛市市南区新贵都C区东3门旁 *You can copy the address from the comments below! |
The Lanzhou Lamian branch we visited is conveniently located within walking distance of Dahongmen, a popular restaurant among international visitors.
We stopped by for a late-night snack and a potential hangover cure after our first meal.

The interior of the restaurant has a truly local Chinese eatery vibe, with not a single tourist in sight. We arrived close to closing time, which meant we could enjoy our meal in peace!

Inside Lanzhou Lamian, you'll find a large Chinese menu board featuring pictures of the dishes. You can simply point to the dishes that look appealing to place your order!

Our Order:
Beef Noodle Soup (牛肉拉面)
10 RMB (~$1)
Stir-fried Knife-Cut Noodles with Beef (牛肉炒刀削面)
15 RMB (~$2)
I was craving soup, so I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, and the Stir-fried Knife-Cut Noodles with Beef is a dish I always enjoyed in China, so it was an easy choice.
The total for both dishes was less than ~$3, making it an incredibly affordable spot!

First off, the portion of noodles at this Lanzhou Lamian was absolutely massive! If you're not a big eater, you might want to ask for a smaller portion.
Also, if you're not a fan of cilantro, remember to say 'bu yao xiang cai' (不要香菜), and they'll leave it out for you!

The Beef Noodle Soup came with plenty of radish and beef, topped with cilantro and green onions. A touch of chili oil was also drizzled on top.
And yes, the noodles were incredibly abundant! The texture of the noodles wasn't overly chewy, but it was perfectly satisfying.
Unlike Taiwanese beef noodles, the broth here is clear and light, making it easy to slurp down. It wasn't heavy at all, and the radish added a refreshing taste, reminding me a bit of Korean beef and radish soup – perfect for a hangover!

Mid-meal, I decided to add some extra chili oil from the table to give it a spicier kick, which really suited my palate as a Korean.
The portion was so generous that I couldn't finish it all, but if you're looking for a hearty meal, this will definitely fill you up!

Next up was the Stir-fried Knife-Cut Noodles with Beef, which I was really looking forward to. As a stir-fried dish, it came with a small side of soup and pickled cabbage. Just like the beef noodle soup, the knife-cut noodles came in a huge portion.
This dish features bell peppers, onions, beef, cabbage, and other vegetables stir-fried with thick knife-cut noodles in a sauce based on tomato ketchup and a unique house sauce.

The knife-cut noodles themselves were wonderfully chewy, a texture that anyone who loves thick, hand-cut noodles will crave. While this particular Stir-fried Knife-Cut Noodles with Beef didn't quite meet my high expectations, the distinctive sauce flavor was still enjoyable, and I personally found it delicious.
I did think it would have been even better if the sauce had a little more umami depth!

Even so, the generous amount of vegetables and meat, combined with the satisfying chewy texture of the noodles, made for a delightful meal.

Lanzhou Lamian, a must-visit spot in Qingdao, truly lives up to its reputation for generous portions – you'll see it in the noodle servings alone!
We visited for a second round of late-night food and ended up leaving quite a bit, but if you're there for a main meal, you'll definitely leave feeling full and satisfied.
Beyond noodles, they also offer a variety of other dishes, including stir-fries, rice bowls, and fried rice. If you're looking to try authentic Lanzhou-style local cuisine away from the tourist crowds, I highly recommend giving it a shot!
