Qingdao is a fantastic urban destination in China, perfect for a quick getaway.
Beyond its convenient accessibility, Qingdao boasts breathtaking scenery and plenty of Instagram-worthy photo spots.
Today, we're excited to guide you through two of Qingdao's most captivating areas: the Badaguan Scenic Area and the Second Bathing Beach!
Badaguan Scenic Area (Bā Dà Guān)
First up is the Badaguan Scenic Area, known in Chinese as Bā Dà Guān.
A defining characteristic of Badaguan is how each street is uniquely lined with a different species of tree.
This thoughtful design ensures vibrant scenery year-round, with various flowers blooming and foliage changing across spring, summer, fall, and winter.
This scenic area covers a considerable expanse, inviting visitors to stroll along its paths and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
During our winter visit, we found the cypress and cedar trees particularly lush and vibrant.
Even amidst winter's chilly air, the trees maintained their verdant leaves.
It almost felt like we'd been transported to a Northern European forest.
Huashi Villa (Flower-Stone House)
Next on our list is the iconic Huashi Villa, or Flower-Stone House, conveniently located within walking distance of the scenic area.
Its distinctive facade, resembling a medieval European castle, was visible from afar. Quite striking, isn't it?
You'll find small street vendors nearby, perfect for grabbing a snack to warm up on a cooler day.
Originally built as a luxurious private residence, it later served as a vacation retreat for high-ranking Chinese officials and a venue for receiving foreign dignitaries after the liberation.
Unfortunately, we arrived in the late afternoon and weren't able to go inside.
Nevertheless, just admiring its exterior gave us the distinct feeling of being in Europe, making it a truly worthwhile stop.
From there, we continued our stroll towards the Second Bathing Beach.
As we walked, the sun began to set, painting the sky with incredible colors. The Badaguan coastline is an exceptional spot for sunset views, so try to time your visit to catch this magical hour!
Second Bathing Beach
Upon reaching the Badaguan beach area, we were immediately struck by its resemblance to a charming resort villa.
One of the best things to do here is to take a leisurely walk along the coastal boardwalk.
For those of us who don't often get to visit the beach, seeing the ocean in an international setting like this offers a uniquely refreshing experience.
However, be warned: Qingdao winters can be quite cold, and the coastal breeze here is especially biting. We highly recommend bundling up in warm clothing if you visit during the colder months.
Finally, let's talk about a fantastic photo spot. Head towards the cliff-like rocks along the beach, and you'll find a slightly recessed area.
Snapping a picture here offers a unique and interesting composition, perfect for your travel album!
The Subtle Charm of Badaguan
Badaguan, being a scenic area, is perfect for a relaxed visit during your Qingdao trip, easily fitting into about an hour and a half of your itinerary.
During winter, when the sun sets earlier, consider visiting after an early dinner for a delightful sunset stroll. You'll find it quite rewarding!
We hope this guide inspires you to explore the unique charm of Badaguan on your next Qingdao adventure!
