Porto's Douro River and Dom Luís I Bridge
If you're searching for the most beautiful scenery in Porto,
it's undoubtedly
the Douro River and the Dom Luís I Bridge.
Experiencing their distinct charms by
day and night, I'm chronicling those special days.
📍 Luís I Bridge
Porto, Portugal

My first morning waking up in Porto at my accommodation.
After a rainy night, a hazy fog filled the air,
making Porto feel even more dreamy and ethereal.
This accommodation, with its panoramic view of the Douro River and Dom Luís I Bridge,
truly captured my heart!
(A real 'view맛집' – a place with an amazing view!)
You can find my Airbnb accommodation review below⬇️
Gazing out from my room, I couldn't wait to get out and explore!
So, I quickly got ready and ventured out to soak up all that Porto has to offer.

Right after stepping out of the accommodation, you're greeted by the
buildings across the Douro River.
The lingering fog from the rain added an extra touch of charm.
The panoramic view of Porto from the end
of the Dom Luís I Bridge was absolutely stunning.
There were love locks hanging on the railing,
which reminded me of the Namsan Tower in Korea, haha!
(It's that universal desire to leave a mark when you travel, isn't it?)

Just gazing at it was pure healing for the soul.
The air and atmosphere of that day are unforgettable.

From my accommodation, I crossed the Dom Luís I Bridge
to explore the city center.
The Dom Luís I Bridge can be crossed via both its upper and lower decks;
the upper deck is for the metro, and the lower deck is for cars.
There are pedestrian walkways on both sides of each deck, so walking across
is no problem at all.
Just be aware that the walkways aren't very wide.

When you reach the city side of the bridge,
you'll spot the cable car (funicular).
Taking the cable car (funicular) up will connect you to the
upper deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge.

Instead of the cable car, I also made my way up to the upper deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge
using Google Maps.
(Be warned: there are many steep stairs!)
Even with the clear weather, the mist nestled between the buildings looked
majestic and magnificent.

Wanting to get a better look at the Douro River,
I headed towards the Dom Luís I Bridge.
It was such a delightful moment, bathed in the morning sunlight.
I noticed handprints scattered on the buildings
behind the bridge.
(You'll find many of these around Porto's buildings!)

The view from the upper deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge:
red-roofed buildings huddled charmingly along both sides
of the Douro River.
With the mist still hanging in the air, it was a moment filled with abundant charm.

The morning air was so lovely, I just zoned out watching the water,
and while I was soaking it all in, I even saw the metro (or tram?) pass by.
Since it runs right over the bridge,
be careful not to stray from the pedestrian path!

I visited the Dom Luís I Bridge,
which I'd seen in the morning, again at night after sunset.
At night, there are lights installed along the edge of the pedestrian walkways,
making it beautiful to behold even without any special effort (snapped this when the metro wasn't around).
When the metro passes by back and forth,
you'll hear a sound and feel the ground shake,
so you'll know immediately – no worries! ㅋㅋ

The night view of Porto from the Dom Luís I Bridge
is absolutely stunning, so I highly recommend you check it out.
The lights twinkling on both sides of the Douro River
are simply a spectacular sight.

At the city-side end of the Dom Luís I Bridge,
you can enjoy watching buskers every night.
You'll often see buskers in Porto, and since they're so talented,
just listening to them is incredibly healing.
They sing famous songs or foreign tunes that might be in the local language (or not!),
and it was wonderful to see them interacting with the crowd.

On my last day, before heading from Porto to Lisbon,
the weather was so perfect I just couldn't help but enjoy
the Douro River and the Dom Luís I Bridge.
It was a crystal-clear day, not a cloud in the sky.
On such a beautiful day, taking a stroll along the Douro River
would be absolutely fantastic.
It's also the perfect spot to grab a light drink or a glass of wine at a cafe or bar!
Review of a walk around Ribeira Square along the Douro River⬇️

The weather wasn't just clear; it was brilliantly sunny.
The sunlight wasn't hidden by any clouds,
it shone directly down.
(The water and sky were almost the same color!)

Reaching the end of the Dom Luís I Bridge,
I headed straight for a quiet cafe-bar I spotted there
and grabbed a seat.
The terrace was absolutely wonderful, perfect for enjoying
the bright weather.
As I sat there, a seagull quietly
landed, and we just stared at each other. lol
(It didn't even fly away; so fascinating...)
I ordered some simple bread, and when I shared a piece,
the seagull ate it up so well! haha
And, of course, what's a beautiful day without
a Super Bock draft beer?
It was a bit bittersweet that my last day in Porto had the best weather,
but I was incredibly happy to be able to enjoy it, even if just for a short while in the morning.
It was a truly blissful time.

Finishing off with a beer shot,
with the Douro River in the background~
