Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium: Tickets, Prices & Show Guide 2026
When planning a trip to Nagoya,
you might find yourself debating whether to add an aquarium to your itinerary.
It's an obvious choice if you're traveling with kids,
but for an adults-only trip, it can sometimes feel
like a questionable detour.

However, actually visiting this place completely changes that perspective.
In terms of scale, layout, and overall quality,
the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium isn't just an option—
it's an absolute must-visit destination.

This isn't just a space that lines up marine animals
in glass boxes.
From beloved favorites like orcas, beluga whales, and penguins
to a mesmerizing sardine tornado and deep-sea exhibits,
the entire aquarium features a brilliantly designed storyline and flow.
You'll easily spend 2 to 3 hours wandering through,
making it a perfect mid-day break
or even the main event of your daily itinerary.
If you're looking for a unique experience in Nagoya,
this spot gets my highest recommendation!

1. Overview

The Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium boasts
one of the largest outdoor tanks in Japan.

Located right at the Garden Pier, it's incredibly accessible,
and the surrounding area is packed with
other attractions like an observation deck and maritime museums.
It beautifully combines marine life exhibits with
educational and interactive elements, making it a home run for family trips!
2. Ticket Booking

During weekends or Japanese public holidays,
the lines at the on-site ticket booths can get notoriously long.
Booking a date-specific admission ticket in advance
saves you from wasting precious vacation time standing in line!

They offer distinct pricing tiers for adults, students, and toddlers,
and overall, the prices are quite reasonable.

I grabbed my tickets in advance on Klook for under ~$15
and was able to breeze right through the entrance.
Check out the link below for the exact tickets I booked!

3. Exhibit Highlights

The real magic here lies in their diverse daily programs.
You can get an up-close look at the training and feeding sessions
for orcas, dolphins, and beluga whales,
while the diver communication segments
help you understand the ecology and behavior of these marine giants.

The sardine tornado, jellyfish zone, and deep-sea exhibits
are infinitely more impressive in person than in photos—kids absolutely love them.

I highly recommend planning your route
around the show schedule, as they are the true highlights!
4. North & South Buildings

The aquarium is split into the North and South Buildings.
The North Building follows a "3.5 Billion Year Journey" theme,
focusing heavily on belugas and dolphins
while narrating the epic story of life's evolution.

The South Building takes you on a "Journey to the Antarctic."
It introduces penguins and polar marine life,
and you can even check out the Fuji, a historic Japanese Antarctic observation ship,
giving this section a fascinating museum-like feel.

Keep in mind that you'll need at least 2 hours
to comfortably explore both buildings!

One of the best parts is that even when it's crowded,
the massive layout prevents it from feeling claustrophobic.

You'll naturally find yourself slowing down in the underwater tunnel,
and the orca and dolphin shows are guaranteed
to be some of the most memorable moments of your trip.
Whether you're traveling with family, as a couple,
or flying solo, it's an incredibly rewarding stop.
If you're visiting Nagoya in 2026, don't miss it!
