Of all the European cities my husband and I have visited, Florence holds a truly special place in our hearts.

Every street corner felt like a postcard, the food was spectacular, and the shopping was unmatched.

But what truly elevated our trip was our accommodation. We spent four nights at Pietrapiana Boutique Apartments, and it was hands-down one of the best lodging decisions we made.

If you are planning a trip to Florence, here is my honest review of why this place is worth adding to your shortlist.

1. Why We Chose Pietrapiana Boutique Apartments

When searching for the perfect place to stay in Florence, we kept our checklist simple:

• First, it had to be spotlessly clean.

• Second, it needed to be reasonably priced.

• Third, the major sights had to be within walking distance.

Pietrapiana absolutely knocked the first two criteria out of the park. The cleanliness and overall room condition were impeccable. Given the generous size of the apartment, the price was also incredibly reasonable compared to standard hotels.

However, if I had to rate the location, I’d give it about a 75 out of 100. It is fantastic if you plan to head out in the morning and stay out all day. But if you are the type of traveler who likes to pop back into your room for a quick afternoon nap before heading out again, the walk might feel a bit long.

Pietrapiana Boutique Apartments operates more like a local residence than a traditional hotel. Housed in a classic Florentine residential building, it gives you an authentic taste of local life right from the entrance. It feels very much like a high-end Airbnb.

Instead of standard room numbers, each apartment is named individually (though booking platforms will display standard options like Double Room or Deluxe Apartment).

Check-in is entirely automated. Once you complete your booking, the host sends detailed instructions on how to access the building and your room.

I was a bit nervous about the self-check-in system at first, but the host was incredibly responsive and friendly. Throughout our stay in 2026, anytime we had a quick question about Florence, they replied almost instantly with helpful local tips!

2. Room Tour & Experience

Our apartment was massive—honestly, way too spacious for just the two of us! We originally wanted a smaller room, but since they were fully booked, we ended up with this larger unit.

It comfortably accommodates up to four guests, making it an ideal choice for families or group trips.

The layout featured a large master bedroom and a separate smaller bedroom near the entrance with a single bed. Because we had quite a bit of luggage and did plenty of shopping in Florence, we used the second bedroom as our dedicated closet and baggage room.

It was incredibly convenient to lay out all our suitcases without having to trip over them in the main living space!

The living room featured a comfortable sofa and a TV. The sofa can also be converted into an extra bed if you are traveling with a larger group.

The kitchen was fully equipped with basic cookware, cutlery, pots, pans, a microwave, and even a classic Italian moka pot for your morning espresso.

Even though we stayed for four nights, we were out exploring from dawn till dusk, so we didn't get to use the kitchen as much as we wanted. Looking back, I wish we had bought a bottle of local Tuscan wine and some cheese from the market to enjoy a cozy night in!

The master bedroom had ample wardrobe space, complete with extra bedding and an iron. If you are planning a professional travel photoshoot in Florence, having an iron on hand is a massive lifesaver for keeping your outfits wrinkle-free!

The bathroom featured a clean, modern walk-in shower (no bathtub). While it wasn't massive, it was perfectly sized and very comfortable for two adults.

The interior design was gorgeous—the color schemes and furniture felt straight out of a European home decor magazine. It gave us serious home inspiration!

3. A Few Things to Keep in Mind

While we loved our stay, Pietrapiana is slightly removed from the immediate tourist center. According to Google Maps, it is about a 10-minute walk (approx. 0.5 miles) to the Duomo. However, because of the cobblestone streets and bustling crowds, it can feel a bit longer.

This is especially true when navigating with heavy luggage. The walk from Santa Maria Novella (SMN) train station is about 22 minutes (approx. 1 mile).

If you are traveling light, it is a manageable walk. But if you have large suitcases or are traveling with children or elderly family members, do yourself a favor and take a taxi from the station. Dragging heavy bags over historic cobblestones is no joke!

If your itinerary is short (just 1 or 2 nights), you might prefer staying right next to the train station or the Duomo for convenience. But if you are staying 3 or more nights and want a spacious, residential feel with a kitchen, Pietrapiana is tough to beat.

One minor seasonal tip: because Florence sits on the Arno River, mosquitoes can be quite active during the warmer months. Keep the windows closed at night and consider packing some insect repellent or after-bite cream just in case.
