Today, I’m sharing my experience visiting the gorgeous "Padori Beach Sea Cave" with my grandparents.

What is the Padori Beach Sea Cave?

Padori Beach is located just south of Mallipo Beach in Taean. Known for its beautiful sea pebbles and unique sea caves, it has quickly become a viral sensation on social media and one of the trendiest coastal destinations in South Korea.​

But heads up: The path to the sea cave is quite rugged and slippery, so I wouldn't recommend it for elderly travelers or those with mobility issues (even though I managed to bring my grandparents along, it was a challenge!).

Essential Tips Before You Go

Tide Times (Crucial!)

You can't just visit the Padori Sea Cave anytime you want.

Because it's a tidal cave, it's only accessible during low tide.

For a safe trip, aim to visit within 2 hours before or after the peak low tide.

I highly recommend checking the local tide charts on the "Badatime" website before you head out.

Parking Tips

For the easiest access to the cave, search for "Bada Hoetjib" on your navigation app

and park in the open dirt lot right in front of the restaurant.

While the lot isn't massive, there's usually plenty of space, so parking shouldn't be a major issue.

Even if the main lot is full, there are several other open spaces nearby

where you can easily park. The photo above shows one of the nearby alternative lots!

How to Get to the Padori Sea Cave

After parking, head down to the beach and turn right.

You'll see a stretch of dramatic, towering rock formations in the distance.

Walk toward them and climb over the rocky terrain that looks a bit intimidating to cross.

Once you scramble over the rocks, you'll reach the famous double-chamber sea cave shown here.

It took me about 15 minutes of walking/scrambling from the parking lot (roughly 0.3 miles),

which felt longer than expected due to the uneven ground.

Safety Warnings & Precautions

When you search for Padori Sea Cave online, you mostly see gorgeous, effortless photos,

but the actual hike requires navigating some pretty steep and jagged rocks.

I highly recommend wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes—leave the sandals and flip-flops behind!

To prevent scrapes and bruises, it's also a good idea to wear long sleeves and pants unless it's the peak of summer.

If you visit in summer, just take extra care with every step.

Because I didn't research the terrain thoroughly beforehand,

I didn't realize how rugged it would be for my grandparents. I tried to convince them to head back,

but since we traveled all this way, they wanted to see it. While my grandfather made it across fine,

it was very physically demanding for my grandmother.

If you are traveling with elderly family members or toddlers, I strongly advise skipping the cave.

(It's definitely a place I wouldn't risk bringing my grandparents to a second time!)

Capturing the Perfect Shot

The cave itself isn't incredibly deep, but when you shoot from the inside facing out,

the bright ocean backdrop creates a stunning, dramatic silhouette.

The photos we took—both individual shots and family portraits—turned out beautifully.

My absolute favorite was capturing this incredibly romantic moment

of my grandparents sharing a sweet kiss. It was absolutely worth the trek!

Even outside of the main sea cave, the towering rock formations and the wide-open

ocean backdrop make for some incredible photo opportunities.

Is the Sea Cave the Only Thing to See at Padori Beach?

Because the sea cave is so famous, you might wonder if the rest of the beach is worth visiting.

Honestly, I found several other features that made the beach itself incredibly charming!

The Unique Sound of the Waves

As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were greeted by the sound of the ocean.

Unlike sandy beaches, Padori is filled with smooth pebbles (called 'haeok').

When the waves recede, they drag across the pebbles, creating a distinct, soothing rustling sound.

My dad and grandmother absolutely loved sitting by the shore and listening to it,

and it was the perfect way for all of us to unwind.

Dramatic Rock Formations

When people think of Taean, the viral sea cave photos usually steal the spotlight.

However, the surrounding rock formations are spectacular in their own right.

Just standing among these giant, weathered cliffs is awe-inspiring,

and they provide a gorgeous backdrop for landscape photography.

✔︎ Final Thoughts on Padori Beach Sea Cave

To be honest, I hesitated to add this to our itinerary while planning our trip to the 2026 Taean Tulip Festival.

It was a bit out of the way from our other stops, and I worried it was just a overhyped photo zone.

But I'm so glad we decided to go! The soothing sound of the pebble waves, the majestic cliffs,

and the unforgettable family photos we captured made it a highlight of our trip.
