Norway Travel: Oslo's must-visit spot, the 'Opera House'
Located right near Oslo Central Station,
they are all huddled around the vibrant Bjørvika Harbor area.
You can easily wander between them on foot,
making it the absolute perfect one-day itinerary.

1. Oslo Opera House
Website: https://www.operaen.no/en
If there's one place I have to recommend first
for your Oslo adventure, it's hands down the Opera House.

Norway Travel: Oslo's must-visit spot, the 'Opera House'
It's just a 5 to 10-minute walk from Oslo Central Station,
nestled right in the Bjørvika Harbor area, making it incredibly easy to get to.
Opened in 2008, the Oslo Opera House
was designed to resemble a majestic glacier rising straight out of the fjord.

Norway Travel: Oslo's must-visit spot, the 'Opera House'
The absolute best part about the Oslo Opera House
is that you can actually walk right up onto the roof!
The entire roof slants gently down to the water,
inviting anyone to stroll up to the top.
And once you're up there, the panoramic views of the city and fjord are absolutely breathtaking.

While the interior is reserved for ticketed performances,
the entire exterior is completely open to the public.
I loved that you can fully experience and enjoy the space without needing to buy a ticket.
What touched me most was seeing how people
didn't just treat the building as a passive monument to look at,
but as a vibrant public space to truly live in and enjoy.

Some were sitting and quietly gazing at the sea,
some were lying down soaking up the sun, and others were dancing.
2. MUNCH (The Munch Museum)
Website: https://www.munch.no/en/
Admission: Adults 220 NOK / Under 25s 100 NOK / Children Free
Hours: Sun–Tue: 10:00 - 18:00 / Wed–Sat: 10:00 - 21:00
The second stop on our tour is the iconic MUNCH Museum.
It's located right next to the Opera House,
and its unique, towering design makes it impossible to miss even from afar.

Opened in its current, striking waterfront home in 2021,
It showcases the works of "Norway’s most famous painter," Edvard Munch,
in a beautifully curated space.
You can explore a massive range of his paintings, drawings, and photographs,
and yes, of course, his most legendary masterpiece: *The Scream*!!
Did you know there isn't just one version of *The Scream*?
Several versions exist, and you can see a few of them on rotation here.

Note: The different versions of 'The Scream' are displayed on a rotating schedule, so keep an eye on the timing during your visit!

You can explore the life of 'Edvard Munch' in various engaging ways.
More than just a standard gallery, I loved how the museum
tells the story of Munch's life, mind, and unique perspective
through incredibly creative and interactive exhibitions.

Pick up the receiver, and you can actually chat with someone, making you feel like a real artist.
From spaces that perfectly recreate the artist's studio,
to interactive spots where you can digitally print your own photos,
this exhibition was so much more than just looking at art—
it felt like a fully immersive, hands-on experience.
The entire setup was highly engaging and perfect to explore with kids,
allowing us to dive so much deeper into the artworks and the artist’s life.

The view of Oslo from the Munch Museum was absolutely breathtaking.
Another highlight of the visit was
the panoramic view of Oslo looking down from the museum's top floors.
With the sea and the city skyline stretching out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows,
Oslo felt completely different and magical from up here.
3. Oslo Public Library
Deichman Bjørvika

Oslo Public Library - A must-visit spot on your Norway trip
Just a quick crosswalk away
from the iconic Oslo Opera House,
you'll find the Oslo Public Library, Deichman Bjørvika.
Opened in 2020,
this library goes far beyond a place to just read books—
it's a vibrant cultural complex designed as a cozy "space to stay and live."

Oslo Public Library - A must-visit spot on your Norway trip
Stepping inside, every floor had its own unique vibe,
with so many people freely relaxing on the stairs, sofas, or by the windows,
making full, comfortable use of the library.
It felt peaceful and calm, yet incredibly open and vibrant.
Even though we just popped in briefly during our trip,
it left me wondering, "Can a public library really be this incredible?"
I absolutely loved it. Highly, highly recommended!!
4. Oslo Sea Bath
Sørenga sjøbad
Once you step out of the Munch Museum,
you'll find a waterfront promenade that naturally connects you to the shore.

The L-shaped building in the background is the Munch Museum.
Since this is a newly developed district,
the buildings are sleek and modern,
and being situated right next to the water makes the scenery absolutely stunning.
This area is actually known as one of
Oslo's trendiest waterfront dining spots.
While the prices are on the higher side,
the vibrant atmosphere alone makes it a fantastic travel destination.

Must-visit spot in Oslo, Norway: The public ocean pool
If you take a leisurely stroll all the way to the end of this path,
you'll stumble upon an unexpected gem...
the Sørenga Public Sea Bath (Sørenga sjøbad)!
This public saltwater pool is built on a floating wooden deck,
making it a wonderful space that anyone can enjoy completely free of charge.
What truly blew me away was that the barrier-free ramp (for wheelchairs)
goes right into the water, allowing everyone to easily go for a dip!
5. Floating Fjord Sauna
Oslo Badstuforening
The final experience I want to share is the floating fjord sauna.
I highly recommend this as an absolute must-do in Oslo,
and you'll find several operators right in the area we explored today.
We used Badstuforening,
and you can find detailed booking tips and how-to guides in my post below!
