Tax-Free Discounts
When you think of shopping in Fukuoka, many travelers head straight to Don Quijote. However, did you know that most Japanese locals actually skip Don Quijote?
In fact, other drugstores often offer better prices than Don Quijote, and Daikoku, in particular, boasts exceptionally high tax-free discount rates.

While Don Quijote might have a slightly wider variety of items, Daikoku Drugstore carries most of the popular products that international visitors typically buy. If you're a frequent visitor to Japan, skipping the crowded and often chaotic Don Quijote for the calmer Daikoku is definitely the way to go!

Location

Fukuoka has two main Daikoku Drugstore locations in Tenjin: the Tenjin Building store right in front of Tenjin Station, and the Tenjin Minami store near Tenjin Minami Station.

The image on the left shows the Minami store, and the right is the Building store. The Tenjin Minami store is significantly larger in size.
I visited the Building store after a trip to Parco department store, but if you have more time, I highly recommend checking out the Minami store for a wider selection and more comfortable shopping experience.
Tax-Free Shopping

At Daikoku, you don't need any special coupons for tax-free shopping; just present your passport at the register. Their tax-free discount rates are truly impressive!
✔️ Purchase over 10,000 JPY (approx. ~$67) → 13% off
✔️ Purchase over 30,000 JPY (approx. ~$200) → 15% off
✔️ Purchase over 50,000 JPY (approx. ~$333) → 17% off
Shopping List Essentials

First up, you'll find a fantastic array of snacks displayed outside the store.
From Konjac Jelly starting at 108 JPY to Chocobi, Green Tea KitKats, and various cup noodles, the prices are incredibly budget-friendly.

MegRhythm Steam Eye Masks start from 1,250 JPY.
Beyond eye masks, they also sell warming patches for your back, legs, and shoulders. These are a personal must-buy for me whenever I visit Japan – highly recommended!

Many Eve painkillers are restricted from entry in various countries due to specific ingredients. Products containing 'Allylisopropylacetylurea' are often prohibited and can lead to confiscation or even investigation, so always check carefully before purchasing.

Only the Eve Threeshot Premium painkiller is typically free of these restricted ingredients and can be brought home without issue. However, it tends to be pricier as a result.
The smaller size is 1,300 JPY, and the larger size is 2,260 JPY.

Japan's popular digestive aid, Ohta's Isan, is available for 1,280 JPY.
I usually prefer the tablet form, Ohta's Isan A, but the Tenjin Building store only had the powder type in stock. The Minami store, however, did have the tablet version.

You'll also find patches and ointments for mouth ulcers and oral sores.
I've personally used these for canker sores, and they definitely help reduce pain and prevent irritation, making them a great value product!

Beyond medicines, you'll also discover popular items like Ichiran Ramen, various cup noodles, and a wide selection of green tea-flavored snacks.

The beauty section is well-stocked with a variety of cleansers, cosmetics, and popular sheet masks.

For women, I highly recommend trying Japanese sanitary pads. They are incredibly thin yet highly absorbent, significantly reducing any uncomfortable dampness. Plus, they're surprisingly affordable!

With prices comparable to or even better than Don Quijote, and significantly higher tax-free discount rates, Daikoku Drugstore is the perfect spot for your last-minute souvenir and essentials shopping in Fukuoka! Happy travels and happy shopping!
The Daikoku Drug Tenjin Minami branch is significantly larger than the Tenjin Building branch. The article recommends visiting the Minami branch if you have enough time. The Tenjin Building branch is located right in front of Tenjin Station, while the Tenjin Minami branch is near Tenjin Minami Station.
To receive a tax-free discount at Daikoku Drugstore, you need to present your passport at the cash register; no separate coupon is required. The discount rate varies depending on the purchase amount: a 13% discount applies to purchases over ~$62, a 15% discount for purchases over ~$187, and a 17% discount for purchases over ~$312.
Only Eve Threeshot Premium pain relievers, which do not contain the ingredient 'Allylisopropylacetylurea', can be brought into Korea. Other Eve pain relievers are prohibited from being brought into Korea due to the inclusion of this ingredient. Eve Threeshot Premium pain relievers cost ~$8 for the small size and ~$14 for the large size.
The Daikoku Drug Tenjin Minami branch operates from 10:05 AM to 11:50 PM. The Daikoku Drug Tenjin Building branch operates from 9:05 AM to 10:20 PM. Additionally, while the Tenjin Building branch only had powdered Ohta's Isan, the Minami branch also had tablet-form stock available.
