Planning a day trip to Nara Park from Osaka Namba with kids? This guide covers the easy Kintetsu train journey (~40 mins, ~$4 one-way), plus a top convenience store tip for families!
Quick answer
- Take the Kintetsu Line from Osaka-Namba Station directly to Kintetsu Nara Station, approximately 40 minutes.
- Adult one-way fare is about ~$4; elementary students ~$2 (as of October 2026).
- Nara Park entrance is a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. The park is vast.
- Families with young children should bring a stroller for comfortable exploration.
- Stop at 7-Eleven Nara Prefectural Office for snacks and a resting area before the park.
During our trip to Osaka,
one of the places my kids were most excited about
was Nara Park, where they could meet the famous deer.
I worried it might be too far from Namba,
but after some research, I found out it was just one train ride away.
This particular trip included three adults, two children,
and even a stroller.
The thought of a direct train, no transfers needed,
sealed our decision for a Nara Park day trip.
Having experienced it firsthand, getting there was surprisingly easy,
and we even discovered a great convenience store along the way
that I definitely wanted to share!
Namba to Nara Park: Which Station Should You Head To?
After spending a few days in Osaka,
I realized there are several Namba Stations.
There's Nankai Namba Station, JR Namba Station, and Osaka-Namba Station,
and their similar names can be quite confusing at first.
To get to Nara Park,
you'll want to go to **Kintetsu Line's Osaka-Namba Station**.
📍 Osaka-Namba Station
日本 〒542-0076 Osaka, Chuo Ward, Namba, 2-chōme−3, 4 丁目 1-17
Your destination is **Kintetsu Nara Station (近鉄奈良駅)**.
Catching an Express or Rapid Express train bound for Nara
will take you there directly in about 40 minutes, with no transfers.
When you're traveling with kids,
even one less transfer makes a huge difference, right?
Navigating stairs with a stroller and keeping an eye on the children
is no small feat, so a direct route was incredibly convenient.
How Much Was the Kintetsu Nara Train Fare?
We purchased paper tickets directly at the station.
The ticket you see in the photo is what we used.
Adult one-way: ~$4!

Category | One-Way Fare |
Adult | ~$4 |
Elementary Student | ~$2 |
3-Year-Old Child | Free with accompanying adult (conditions apply) |
Adult Round-Trip | ~$9 |
These are the standard fares as of October 2026.
You can buy tickets at the station or simply tap through the gate
with a transportation IC card like ICOCA or Suica.
Note that Kintetsu Limited Express trains require an additional limited express surcharge
on top of the standard fare. We found the regular express train perfectly adequate.

If you're using paper tickets,
don't forget to retrieve your ticket after passing through the gate;
you'll need it to exit at your destination.
With a stroller and kids in tow, it can get a bit hectic at the turnstiles,
so it's helpful to have your ticket ready in advance.
Is Nara Park Far from Kintetsu Nara Station?
Once you get off the train,
Nara Park is within walking distance.
From Kintetsu Nara Station to the park's entrance,
it's about a 5-minute walk.
However, be aware that Nara Park is truly enormous!

Just because you've reached the park entrance
doesn't mean your deer-spotting adventure is over.
As you walk further inside,
you'll discover lush green fields and many more attractions,
so you'll end up walking more than you might expect.

日本 奈良県 奈良市
Since we had our 3-year-old with us,
bringing a stroller was a lifesaver. I highly recommend
bringing a stroller if you're visiting Nara Park with young children.
Best Convenience Store Stop Before Nara Park?
This is a tip I absolutely wanted to share after our visit!
It's a good idea to grab some water or drinks
before heading into Nara Park.

While there are convenience stores closer to Kintetsu Nara Station,
I recommend walking a bit further to visit a specific 7-Eleven.
The one we used was the
**7-Eleven Nara Prefectural Office store**, located across from Nara Park.
📍 7-Eleven Nara Prefectural Office
日本 〒630-8213 Nara, Noboriōjichō, 30 奈良県庁東棟 1F
It was much larger and had a wider selection of items
than the convenience stores we saw closer to the station entrance.
But the best part was
that it had a seating area where you could eat!

When you're traveling with kids,
you often need a moment to sit down and rest.
We bought drinks and snacks here,
took a quick break, and then continued our journey to Nara Park.
Snack Time at 7-Eleven!
In the photo, you can see our haul: Pocari Sweat, coffee,
and even a delicious fried chicken skewer.
We each enjoyed a fried snack,
and sitting there, munching away,
it really added to the feeling of being on a Japan trip.

It was fun picking out convenience store snacks,
and it was a perfect spot for the kids to rest for a bit.
Honestly, we hadn't planned to seek out a convenience store
on our way to Nara Park, but this one turned out to be a real gem.
Nara Park Day Trip with Kids:
Don't Forget These Essentials
Nara Park has many wide-open fields,
so you'll be exposed to a lot of sun.
When we visited, the sun was quite strong,
so I recommend bringing hats, parasols, or sunblock,
and definitely water for the kids.
Especially if you're with young children,
a stroller will also be incredibly useful.

Traveling from Namba to Nara Park by train was straightforward.
What was more important, though, was planning how much walking we'd do upon arrival,
and where we could take breaks in between.

If you're considering a day trip to Nara Park
during your Osaka travels,
definitely take the Kintetsu train.
And just like us, grabbing some snacks and drinks
from the 7-Eleven before heading into Nara Park makes the experience even better.

Our Nara Park adventure with the kids
was filled with small joys right from the journey there.
