Today, I'm excited to share my review of

the Orange Hotel Select Yu Garden,

where I stayed during my recent trip to Shanghai! 🙂

Having visited Shanghai over a dozen times for both business and leisure,

I've stayed all over—from Lujiazui to the heart of East Nanjing Road

and even around Jing'an Temple.

But lately, I find myself choosing the Yu Garden area almost every time.

The reason is simple: it just makes traveling so much easier! 👍

Let me break down why I highly recommend staying near Yu Garden.

1. Shanghai Hotel Location Tips

Yu Garden (Yuyuan) is a historic commercial district in Shanghai,

famous for the traditional alleyways of the Yu Garden Old Street

and the stunning classical garden itself.

While it's a major tourist attraction,

the best part is how incredibly packed it is with amazing food.

Every alley is lined with restaurants, dessert shops, and street food stalls,

so you never have to walk far.

Heading out for dinner, grabbing dessert, stopping by a convenience store,

and returning to the hotel—

all of it could be done in just 5 to 7 minutes!

Since everything in China is built on a massive scale, "closeness" and convenience

are absolute game-changers, haha. 😄

A popular area that people often compare it to

is East Nanjing Road.

It's the ultimate bustling downtown of Shanghai, often compared to Seoul's Myeongdong.

But in reality, the street blocks there are incredibly long.

Walking to just one destination easily takes 10 to 15 minutes minimum.

Shanghai is an urban destination where you'll already be on your feet all day,

so those extra-long blocks can quickly drain your energy.

Yu Garden, on the other hand, has a very compact layout.

It was so convenient to enjoy the gorgeous night views and head straight back to the room.

And if I felt tired, I could pop back in for a quick rest before heading out again!

It's only about a 5-minute walk to Yu Garden,

and the metro station is practically right outside.

Getting here from the airport was a breeze,

and exploring other parts of the city was super convenient.

On the first floor of the building, there's a convenience store

and Yang's Dumpling, a famous local pan-fried bun spot,

which we ended up visiting almost every morning and night!

What I loved most about this hotel

is that it recently underwent a renovation.

Sometimes photos of hotels in China don't quite match reality,

but this place actually felt even cleaner and newer in person!

The lobby was nicely organized, the hallways were spotless,

and it overall felt incredibly well-maintained.

And here's a crucial detail!

They have rooms that can accommodate three guests!

Finding a spot in downtown Shanghai with a good location, reasonable rates,

and triple rooms is actually harder than you'd think.

If you're traveling as a group of three friends or with family,

this is definitely something you need to keep in mind.

It saves you so much money since you don't have to book two separate rooms! ✨

The triple rooms and the budget-friendly Superior rooms

tend to book up pretty quickly.

If your dates are set, I highly recommend checking real-time availability first! ❣️

3. Orange Hotel Deluxe Room Review

Taking a taxi from Pudong Airport,

it took about 50 minutes to arrive at the Orange Hotel.

If I had to pick the only downside of the Orange Hotel,

it would probably be these stairs at the entrance.

But the slope isn't steep at all, so it was perfectly fine to just roll my suitcase up. lol

The check-in lobby was already super clean!

(Wait, why did my photo turn out so blurry? 😅)

I love Shanghai's HEYTEA mango juice so much

that I actually ordered it to the hotel while I was still in the taxi.

Yes, that's me! 🖐🏻

My room was on the 3rd floor, and the hotel has this grand, square-shaped

layout that felt quite spacious and impressive.

The room I stayed in was the Deluxe Room.

When I opened the door and stepped inside,

the whole room felt bright, clean, and welcoming.

In China, if you book a hotel that is too cheap,

it tends to be packed with domestic tour groups;;

which often means less upkeep and a lot of dust. But here,

you can really tell that it was recently renovated.

The floors were in great shape, and the bedding was spotless.

I loved that there was absolutely none of that typical 'old hotel' smell.

The bed was pleasantly firm without sinking too much—which is low-key so important when you're traveling.

On both sides of the bed, there were power outlets, USB ports,

and lighting controllers like this.

The wardrobe was super spacious, and there was a large mirror right by the entrance—

perfect for checking our outfits and taking daily mirror selfies!

The bathroom was also wonderfully spacious and perfectly organized.

The water pressure was great, and hot water came running instantly.

We had absolutely no issues showering.

The amenities were custom-made by Orange Hotel themselves,

and they smelled so amazing I wanted to take them home! I used them every single day.

We ordered a lot of delivery on this trip,

and every single time, this adorable little robot brought our food right to us.

The famous flat peaches! Everyone says you must try them when you visit China 🍑

I went on this trip with a friend who is pregnant,

and she said the room layout was super easy to navigate and the bed was so plush.

She had zero discomfort during our stay!

It was also incredibly quiet, so she got plenty of deep, peaceful rest 👍🏻

Right outside the hotel, there's a bustling shopping street,

so grabbing snacks and doing a little shopping was incredibly convenient.

The Bund is only about a 15-minute walk away,

which made it the perfect post-dinner stroll.

I booked this hotel a month in advance,

and the most budget-friendly room, the Superior Twin Room, was already sold out,

so we had to upgrade to a Deluxe Twin Room, which was slightly over our budget!

When I compared the two, they were pretty much identical, except the Superior Room had a slightly tighter space around the table and sofa.

So, if your travel dates are locked in,

I highly recommend checking room availability early

to get the best value for your money!
