After a full day exploring Hamburg's Miniatur Wunderland, soaking in the views from a panoramic observatory, and strolling around the historic harbor area, my stomach was rumbling. It was definitely time for dinner!
Having already enjoyed a classic German burger earlier, I was on the hunt for something different. After a quick search for top-rated spots (excluding burgers, of course!), one name consistently popped up with overwhelmingly positive reviews: Olá Lisboa.
Let me tell you, this place truly delivered, especially with its incredible shrimp. Come along as I introduce you to Olá Lisboa!

First Impressions: The Exterior

Olá Lisboa, as the name suggests, is a Portuguese restaurant. I'm actually planning a trip to Lisbon, Portugal later this year in December 2026, so I briefly wondered if I should really be eating Portuguese food in Hamburg.
However, the memory of countless reviews raving about their gambas being so good it brought tears to people's eyes kept nagging at me. That sealed the deal – I had to try it!

From the outside, the restaurant looked incredibly neat and inviting.

There were several outdoor tables where guests could enjoy their meals al fresco, and the outdoor lighting made it feel quite cozy. While a good number of people were dining outside, we decided to head inside to find a spot.
Stepping Inside: The Ambiance

As soon as I stepped through the door, I instantly knew I'd made an excellent choice. It was evening, so the interior was buzzing with people, creating a lively and warm atmosphere.
The tables were quite close together, giving it a very intimate, almost communal feeling.

While our table didn't have this issue, I noticed some spots where if one person moved their chair, the person at the next table would have to adjust too. It looked a bit tight, but thankfully, we were comfortable.

We snagged a cozy two-person table right by the entrance.

The lighting inside wasn't overtly bright, but each table had a lovely candle lit, which created a wonderfully romantic and inviting ambiance.
The Delightful Pre-Meal Bread

Before our main course arrived, we were served this delicious bread!
Unlike what I'm used to in many places, which often serves bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, here we were given a fantastic aioli sauce.
Aioli sauce is primarily made from garlic and olive oil; "ai" means garlic and "oli" means oil.
It tasted somewhat like a rich garlic dipping sauce, and it paired surprisingly well with the bread – truly delicious!

I'm a fairly light eater, so I made sure to limit myself to just a piece or two of the bread. I wanted to save plenty of room for the main event!
My Gambas Platter Experience

I ordered the Gambas platter (18 big prones)! I was a little surprised by the presentation, as gambas are usually served swimming in oil. But since it was a platter, this style made sense.

As expected from a port city renowned for its seafood, these shrimp were incredibly fresh and utterly delicious. I've heard amazing things about their paella too, so if I get the chance to visit again, that's definitely next on my list!

When the dish first arrived, I briefly wondered, "How am I going to peel all these shrimp?" There were so many!
But as I started working my way through them, I quickly mastered the art of shrimp peeling, so no worries there!

To be completely honest, while they were fantastic, they didn't quite bring tears to my eyes as some reviews suggested. They were simply fresh, savory, and incredibly satisfying!
Still, as a true shrimp enthusiast, I was absolutely thrilled to indulge in so many delicious prawns.

Port City Seafood: A Must-Try

My visit truly solidified my belief that when in Hamburg, Germany's largest port city, you simply must indulge in some seafood. It's the perfect way to cap off a day of exploring the bustling Hamburg harbor!

As I walked back to my accommodation, a sudden rain began to fall. After a sunny day, the gentle shower felt like a fitting and peaceful end to a wonderful day of discovery and delicious food.
Olá Lisboa does not accept card payments; only cash is accepted. It is recommended to prepare cash in advance before your visit.
Olá Lisboa operates from 12 PM to 1 AM on weekends. On weekdays, it is open from 12 PM to midnight.
Instead of the common olive oil and balsamic sauce found in Korea, Olá Lisboa's complimentary bread is served with aioli sauce. Aioli sauce, made primarily from garlic and olive oil, has a taste similar to garlic dipping sauce.
Olá Lisboa's Gambas Platter is presented differently from typical gambas, which are usually submerged in oil. It features 18 large shrimp served on a platter, characterized by their fresh and savory taste.
