Got a Sydney adventure on the horizon?
Are you planning a trip to Sydney?
Naturally, you're probably pondering which fantastic stay to book.
From my own travels, I've noticed Australia can be a bit pricier than many places,
which is why I wholeheartedly recommend choosing accommodation with kitchen facilities.
Today, we're diving into one of Sydney's top hotels offering self-catering options –
Oaks Sydney Castlereagh Suites.
❗️Oh, and stick around, because further down, I'll reveal a fantastic tip on how to book it at the best price!
so definitely keep that in mind!

If you're embarking on your first Sydney adventure, finding the ideal accommodation can feel like a quest, right from the get-go.
Having faced the exact same dilemma ourselves,
considering the reasons below,
we chose 'Oaks Sydney Castlereagh Suites'.
📌Our Hotel Selection Criteria
1. Self-catering accommodation
2. Walking distance to a supermarket
3. Great accessibility to attractions
4. Proximity to tour meeting points
As we touched on earlier, dining out in Australia can certainly add up,
costing at least ~$14 per person.
That's why we aimed to maximize our savings by buying groceries from a supermarket for most of our dinners,
and cooking them at the hotel.
What we loved about Oaks Sydney is that it doesn't just have a shared kitchen;
you can actually cook right inside your private room! How convenient is that!
✅ And the cherry on top? A large supermarket like Coles is less than 5 minutes away,
making it convenient to buy ingredients.
Beyond that, for any city exploration, isn't proximity to all the best spots absolutely essential?
The hotel is within walking distance to Chinatown, Paddy's Market, Darling Harbour,
Hyde Park, and more,
and even the Opera House and Observatory can be reached by tram
in about 20 minutes,
meaning you can casually pop out to admire the nightscapes!
And finally, for those planning a Sydney trip, you'll likely be eyeing excursions to the Blue Mountains or
Port Stephens.
It's also a 5-minute walk to the tour meeting points,
so even if your tour has an early start, you can join without any morning rush!
How to Book Your Sydney Hotel for Less?
Given Sydney's reputation for being a bit pricey, accommodation costs can indeed be
quite high.
💡 After doing my research, I found that currently,
booking on Agoda is the cheapest!
Based on August weekdays | Agoda |
Studio | ~$167 |
Studio City View | ~$183 |
Now, let's dive into our detailed review of our stay at Oaks Sydney!

Oaks Sydney Castlereagh Suites check-in and check-out
times are as follows:
Check-in time: 2:00 PM
Check-out time: 10:00 AM
After wrapping up our airport pick-up and Eastern Beaches tour,
we were conveniently dropped off at the accommodation right around check-in time,
allowing us to settle in straight away.

We had reserved the Studio City View,
and after a swift check-in, we eagerly made our way up to the room.
Room Condition

The Studio City View room was much more spacious than we expected.
Stepping through the room door and down a short, welcoming corridor,
The room was really spacious, so there was plenty of room to put down our suitcases and other belongings.
Most travelers to Sydney probably use suitcases 26 inches or larger, and even with our luggage spread out, it didn't feel cramped at all!

The room we booked featured a large double bed, a single sofa, a table, chairs, a TV, and a storage cabinet.
The bed, in particular, was incredibly plush and perfectly conforming, which was just what we needed to melt away the fatigue after a full day of exploring. The bed truly was the best!
Having the table and sofa made it super convenient to enjoy meals right in our room.

Inside the cabinet, you'll find handy items like an ironing set, a safe, extra bedding, and clothes hangers. It was great to be able to iron our clothes and look sharp for visiting Sydney's upscale restaurants!
Bathroom

The bathroom was also quite spacious!
Inside, you'll find a shower booth, a sink, and a toilet, all neatly arranged.
As for amenities, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all provided, so there's no need to pack your own.
They generously supplied both small and large towels, which was really convenient. We also loved that when we needed extra towels, the front desk provided them right away!
The water pressure was excellent too, strong enough that we never felt any discomfort, which was a big plus.
City View

From the Studio City View, you can enjoy a fantastic city view!
While our assigned room had a building directly in front, the open views to both sides created a wonderful atmosphere. Plus, it was pretty fun watching the occasional train pass by!
If you have the choice, I definitely recommend booking a room with a City View over a Studio Room!
Cooking Facilities

Finally, I want to share a feature I considered really important: the available cooking facilities!
The kitchen is basically equipped with dishes, pots, pans, utensils, an induction cooktop, and a sink. (Though, for seasonings, only sugar was available!)
❗️Just a heads-up: there are no tongs or scissors, so if you're planning to grill meat, I recommend picking up some inexpensive ones from a store like Daiso before you arrive!

You'll also find a microwave and an electric kettle, which are incredibly useful for heating up instant rice or frozen foods.

We only brought ssamjang (Korean dipping sauce), stir-fried kimchi, instant rice, tongs, and scissors from Korea.
Then, we bought ramen, lamb chops, beef, and vegetables from a local supermarket and cooked up delicious meals every evening!
It was also fun trying a different Australian beer every day.
And let me tell you, choosing a hotel with cooking facilities for our dinners every evening?
That was truly a brilliant decision!
For those of you who, like us, want to enjoy a trip while staying in a hotel with a fantastic location and cooking facilities,
▶️I highly recommend checking out OAKS Sydney Castlereagh Suites.
