Matsuyama, Japan was hands down the most budget-friendly, value-for-money trip of my life!
And here is my honest, 100% personally funded (and incredibly surprising) review of my stay at
Nest Hotel Matsuyama!
Booking the Stay
I found this place while searching for budget-friendly hotels in Matsuyama.
Since it's a smaller, quieter Japanese city, safety was a top priority for me.
Seeing so many positive reviews from solo travelers gave me the confidence
to book this spot!
After comparing a few different booking sites, Agoda had the absolute best rate,
so I booked it there without a second thought!

When I first looked up the room rates,
I was absolutely shocked by how unbelievably cheap it was.
I mean, for a 2-night stay (not just 1!),
the double room was in the early ~$26s,
and the twin room was only in the early ~$64s..!!!
Staring at these ridiculously low prices,
I debated whether to book the double room or the twin room.
But since even the twin room was an incredible steal,
and because I was traveling with a friend and wanted to sleep comfortably,
we decided to go with the twin room!
Location of Nest Hotel Matsuyama
After hopping off the free airport shuttle bus,
it was just an easy 10-minute walk to Nest Hotel!
The sidewalks are nice and smooth,
so pulling our luggage along was a breeze and not tiring at all.
Is it just me, or is there a special kind of excitement
when you walk into your hotel for the first time on a trip?
With a heart full of anticipation, I rolled my suitcase right in!
Check-in
Check-in 15:00 / Check-out 11:00
Since check-in at Nest Hotel starts at 3:00 PM,
it didn't align with our early morning flight arrival.
We arrived at the hotel around 10:00 AM!
First, we headed over to the front desk
located on the right side of the entrance.
I showed the staff our Agoda booking confirmation and passports,
and asked if we could leave our bags there
before we officially checked in.

Luggage storage is available both before check-in and after check-out!
This is a total game-changer when planning your itinerary,
and Nest Hotel has you covered! Yes!!!!!!
After leaving our bags and exploring the city completely hands-free,
we finally returned to the hotel around 6:00 PM to settle in.
We just had to write down our name and nationality before claiming our luggage!
Amenities
You'll need to grab your basic amenities from the 1st-floor lobby.
They are right by the pillar, so before heading up to your room,
make sure to grab what you need!
After walking miles and miles,
the elevator was an absolute lifesaver...
Nest Hotel Matsuyama, Room 502
We were assigned Room 502!
Since our room was located at the very end of the hallway,
we could easily check ourselves in the mirror on the way.
Instead of tapping the card to enter,
it’s the type where you insert the card to open the door.
Of course, since we weren't used to it, we tried tapping it about three times... ^^
It has a double-lock system,
so we locked it right up as soon as we stepped inside!
Room Condition
Here’s a quick look at the overall room condition!
We chose a non-smoking room, so there was absolutely no cigarette smell,
and although it felt a bit dated, it was quite clean and tidy.
The moment I walked into the room, I thought:
Choosing a twin room was the best decision ever!!!
It was so convenient to unfold our suitcases next to our own beds,
and so nice to have our own comfortable bed to crash in!
A pamphlet with dining options, facility hours, and the Wi-Fi password,
packed with all kinds of helpful info about the hotel.
Just snap a photo with the Papago translation app,
and you can read it easily!
On the nightstand between the beds,
there was a charging station, light controls, and a telephone.
It definitely has a retro feel,
and the switch on the right controls the room lighting!
My absolute favorite part!
Not bringing a 110V adapter wasn't a problem at all
because they had a multi-outlet power strip plugged in!
But since there was only one located right between the twin beds,
if both of you want to use it while lying down,
your USB cables will need to be pretty long...
Freshly folded bathrobes were neatly placed on the beds.
I brought my own mandarin orange pajamas from home
specifically for this Matsuyama trip ^^,,
so I didn't end up wearing them. (TMI...)

Also, when people walk past in the hallway,
I could hear their conversations, so
the soundproofing didn't seem to be the best.
Nest Hotel Bathroom
The bathroom is right next to the entryway.
It felt like a cozy studio apartment bathroom—compact, but it has absolutely everything you need.
Of course, the twist is that most studio apartments don't come with a bathtub! 😉
Understandably, there was no hair straightener,
and the hairdryer's airflow was a bit on the weaker side.
They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash,
and the scent was actually quite nice, so I used them without any hesitation!
And my absolute favorite part—
the hot water pressure was incredible!
The pressure was strong and the hot water rushed out instantly,
making every shower so relaxing.
I didn't have enough time to use the bathtub myself,
but if you pick up a bath bomb during your trip,
soaking in the tub would be the ultimate way to unwind!
There's also a bidet...?
But I didn't really feel like using the spray function,
so I just made full use of the heated seat! Heated seats are the best! 🔥
They provide two of each type of towel,
which was the perfect amount—not too many, not too few!
Hotel Facilities (3rd Floor)
A microwave, ice machine, vending machines, and a coin laundry room...
are all conveniently located on the 3rd floor!
Wash: 300 yen (~$2) per load (detergent is automatically added)
Dryer: 100 yen (~$1) for 30 minutes
* You can exchange cash for coins at the front desk
If you're planning a longer stay,
400 yen (~$3) for a wash + dry... that's a pretty sweet deal, right?
Around Nest Hotel
I skipped the hotel breakfast and opted for convenience store food instead,
and since there were two convenience stores right next to the hotel,
it turned out to be an amazing decision!
The only downside is that there's no table in the room, which was a tiny bit inconvenient,
but we made it work by placing a chair between the twin beds to use as a makeshift table.
Don Quijote is only an 8-minute walk from the hotel!!!!
Being able to just walk back after a massive shopping haul at Don Quijote
made shopping so effortless and stress-free.

Check-in at Nest Hotel is at 3:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM. Luggage storage is available at the front desk both before check-in and after check-out, allowing you to travel light.
You don't need to bring a separate adapter, as there is a power strip provided in the room for direct charging. However, in twin rooms, there is only one power strip in the middle of the beds, so we recommend bringing a long USB cable.
The washing machine costs 300 yen per load, and detergent is dispensed automatically. The dryer costs 100 yen per 30 minutes, and you can exchange money for coins at the front desk.
There are two convenience stores located right next to the hotel, making it easy to buy food. Don Quijote is also about an 8-minute walk away, which is convenient for walking back after shopping.
Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and towels are provided in the room's bathroom. Other basic amenities are available near the pillar in the 1st-floor lobby, so you need to pick them up yourself before entering your room.
