1. Finding Unique Antiques Near Matsuyama Castle
Have you ever explored an antique shop while traveling? It's one of my favorite ways to connect with a destination's past, even if I don't end up buying anything.
Just like how you might stumble upon a hidden gem at a vintage market back home, Japan's antique stores offer a peek into local history and artistry.

On my way to Matsuyama Castle, I discovered this charming vintage antique shop, and I'm excited to share it with you!
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
2. Matsuyama's Antique Pottery, Fans, and Teacups
You'll find this quaint shop tucked away on a small corner street as you make your way to Matsuyama Castle.
Through the display window, I spotted an array of antique pottery, teacups, and other treasures, which immediately drew me in.

From traditional Japanese dishes to vintage picture frames, the shop was filled with items that carried the beautiful patina of time, each telling its own story.

Some of the plates looked almost brand new, making them perfect for immediate use or as unique additions to your home decor.

Though the shop itself was small, it offered a delightful experience browsing through its diverse collection. The owner, a kind elderly gentleman, allowed visitors to explore at their own pace without interruption.
However, due to its compact size, it felt a little less spacious for completely free browsing.
3. Vintage Kimonos and Yukatas in Matsuyama
As someone with a keen interest in traditional clothing from different cultures, I made sure to check out their selection of pre-owned yukatas.
While there were many pieces, I found that truly "stylish" modern designs were somewhat limited.
I also noticed the prices were a bit higher than I initially expected for vintage items.

Despite the abundance of clothing, the most appealing pieces often came with a slightly higher price tag.
Beyond the yukatas themselves, there was also a good variety of obi sashes to choose from, allowing for different styling options.
They even had special boxes filled with discounted items, perfect for those hunting for a bargain.

For those preferring new items, there were also brand-new kimonos and yukatas neatly wrapped in plastic and stored separately.

Sometimes, when you're looking to buy a yukata, the fabric patterns might appear a bit simplistic or childish on the hanger.
However, they often transform once you try them on! If you're considering purchasing a vintage yukata, I highly recommend holding it up to yourself or even trying it on to get a true feel for the garment before committing.

They also sold fabric stickers with traditional patterns, which could be a fun way to customize a plain t-shirt or other items.
I ended up purchasing some accessories related to vintage kimonos.
I bought a beautiful orange-hued kimono set.
The total cost was ¥7500.

While it felt a bit pricier than I initially expected, considering I bought a full set, it was quite reasonable. Based on current exchange rates, that's approximately ~$37-~$44, which is a fantastic deal for authentic Japanese traditional wear.
Even if you're not planning a big purchase like a full kimono, I highly recommend stopping by. They have plenty of smaller accessories and decorative items that make for unique souvenirs or gifts.
