When planning a trip to Namyangju, beyond the usual restaurants and coffee shops, I was on the hunt for something truly unique. That's when I stumbled upon "Today's Shovel," a heavy equipment RC cafe!
The idea of directly controlling RC excavators and dump trucks, and even winning prizes, sounded incredibly fun. So, I booked a slot for a weekend afternoon and headed over!
Right outside, there's even a real excavator that kids (and adults!) can sit in for a memorable photo opportunity. It's definitely a huge hit with the little ones!
A quick note on parking: while free parking is available right in front of the cafe, there are only about 4-5 spots. So, it's a good idea to keep that in mind when planning your visit.
Inside, the cafe was bustling with both families and couples, all immersed in the experience of operating various RC heavy equipment!
There are options that are easier for kids to handle, as well as more challenging RC vehicles perfect for adults. It truly seemed like everyone, regardless of age, was having a blast! 😆
Sessions are typically priced per person for 30 minutes, and there's a fantastic selection of heavy equipment RC vehicles to choose from!
For those wanting to experience controlling a large hydraulic excavator, just like the real thing, it's about ~$21. If you prefer a slightly smaller hydraulic excavator, it's around ~$14!
For younger children, from preschoolers to early elementary school age, there are electric excavators available. These are typically around ~$7 or ~$14 for a 40-minute session, offering an easier entry into the fun.
Reservations are available through Naver for both weekdays and weekends, and I highly recommend booking in advance! ✨

Namyangju RC Cafe "Today's Shovel": Electric Excavators for Kids
The electric excavator experience is incredibly popular, especially with children from kindergarten to early elementary school!
These are much easier to control, making them perfect for younger visitors. Plus, the staff members are incredibly attentive, offering detailed guidance and making sure everyone has a great time, especially with the prize-winning events!
It was wonderful to see both boys and girls equally enthralled. I've already made a mental note to bring my niece and nephew here someday! 😊
Heavy Equipment RC Cafe "Today's Shovel": Smaller Hydraulic Excavator
I opted for the smaller hydraulic excavator challenge. The goal is to diligently dig through the sand for 30 minutes, finding capsules or prizes, and then show them to a staff member!
Each experience had different top prizes: the large excavator offered a "gold bar," while the smaller one had a "silver bar" as its ultimate reward! ♪(´▽｀)
Initially, I found the controls a bit tricky, and I spent about 10 minutes just getting the hang of it. But after that, I started to get the hang of it!
If my RC excavator ever tipped over or got a wheel stuck, the helpful staff members were quick to come to the rescue!
Inside the sand-filled capsules, you can find Shinsegae gift certificates! The varying amounts of the gift certificates added an extra layer of excitement to the hunt. 😄
After finding the highest value gift certificate, the next challenge was to dig for the "silver bar" hidden deep within the sand. Honestly, I had no idea where it was, and it felt like it was buried super deep! 😂
Thirty minutes flies by so quickly when you're having fun, so I just decided to enjoy the RC operation and didn't stress too much about finding the silver bar. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
Ta-da! I found a 3rd place capsule and scored a Shinsegae gift certificate worth ~$7! (☆▽☆)
On top of that, there was an offer to receive a coffee for leaving a review. Since I already had coffee, the owner thoughtfully gave me a snack instead – how considerate! 😄

We operate from 2 PM to 10 PM on weekdays, and from 11 AM to 9 PM on weekends. Every Monday is a regular closing day.
For 30 minutes per person, the large hydraulic excavator experience is ~$21, and the small hydraulic excavator experience is ~$14. The electric excavator experience for kindergarten and lower elementary school students is ~$7 or ~$14 for 40 minutes.
