Planning a trip to Japan and flying into Nagoya? You'll need to travel from Chubu Centrair International Airport (Nagoya Airport) to Nagoya Station, a journey that typically takes about 30-60 minutes by train.
Good news! You can purchase your train tickets from Chubu Centrair to Nagoya Station in advance online, allowing you to use a QR code for seamless boarding once you arrive.
Many travelers opt for the Meitetsu μ-SKY (pronounced 'myu-sky') for its speed. If you purchase your basic train ticket beforehand, booking your μ-SKY reserved seat becomes even quicker.
I'll share three convenient ways to secure your Meitetsu μ-SKY tickets, so keep reading!

(featuring the Meitetsu μ-SKY)

When traveling from Nagoya Airport to Nagoya Station, you generally have three main train options:

If you take the Local Train, the journey from Chubu Centrair to Nagoya Station will take approximately 50 minutes.
However, if you're like me and eager to hit the ground running – perhaps for some shopping or a delicious ramen – you'll want the fastest option. That's where the Meitetsu μ-SKY train comes in.
The Meitetsu μ-SKY is significantly faster, getting you from Chubu Centrair to Nagoya Station in just 28 minutes – that's 20 minutes quicker than the Local Train and 10 minutes faster than the Express Train!

I pre-purchased my train ticket from Nagoya Airport to Nagoya Station through Klook before my trip.
While Klook often markets these as 'Meitetsu μ-SKY tickets,' it's important to note that they are typically for unreserved seats on the Local or Express trains, or the unreserved cars of the Express train.
Essentially, it's a basic fare ticket that allows you to sit in any available unreserved seat, much like a regular subway.

To ride the Meitetsu μ-SKY or a reserved seat on the Express train, you need to purchase a separate 'μ-Ticket' in addition to your basic fare ticket.
Initially, I thought purchasing online beforehand would save me over ~$3, but I soon realized it wasn't the actual μ-SKY reserved seat ticket.
Here are three ways you can purchase your μ-Ticket for the Meitetsu μ-SKY:

1. Purchase in Advance Online
You can reserve your preferred time and seat for the Meitetsu μ-SKY in advance directly on the Meitetsu website.
By paying the μ-Ticket price of ~$3, you can secure your reservation before even arriving in Nagoya, which is highly recommended for those who like to plan ahead.

2. Use a Kiosk at the Station
You can also purchase your Meitetsu μ-SKY μ-Ticket using the kiosks available inside the station.
If you've already purchased a Nagoya train ticket voucher through platforms like Klook or KKday, you'll only need to buy the 'μ-Ticket' (reserved seat ticket). If not, you'll need to purchase both the basic train ticket and the μ-Ticket.

If you have a voucher for the basic fare, you can scan its QR code to enter the station and proceed to board the Meitetsu μ-SKY.
Look for the QR code scanner near the station staff. Simply show your voucher, scan the code, and you're good to go.

Since you're taking the Meitetsu μ-SKY, head to the blue Platform 1.
The Meitetsu μ-SKY departs from Platform 1 (blue). For the Express Train to Nagoya Station from Chubu Centrair, use Platform 3 (red), and for the Local Train, go to Platform 2 (green).

A quick tip: not all cars on the Express Train are reserved. The first two cars are reserved seating, while the last four are general, unreserved seating.
While the unreserved cars on the Express Train get you to Nagoya Station at the same time as the reserved ones, it feels more like a regular subway ride. Since Nagoya Airport is the starting station, you'll likely find a seat in the unreserved section without much trouble.

Once you have your μ-Ticket, check the train number and seat number on it, then refer to the overhead panels on the platform to find your designated car and board.

Upon arrival at Nagoya Station, you'll need to scan your voucher's QR code again at the scanner to exit the station.
When you arrive at Meitetsu Nagoya Station from Chubu Centrair, the QR code scanners can be a bit tricky to spot. Head towards where the station staff are, and you'll find them there.

3. Purchase Onboard from the Crew
If you've purchased your basic fare QR code in advance, you can board the Meitetsu μ-SKY from Platform 1 and find an empty seat. A train attendant will come by to check for μ-Tickets and will sell you one if you don't have it!

Purchasing your μ-Ticket onboard costs ~$3, which is slightly more than buying it in advance (~$3), but still a reasonable price for the convenience.
If you're running short on time for the Meitetsu μ-SKY, I recommend entering with your pre-purchased basic fare voucher and then buying the μ-Ticket directly from the attendant onboard.

To recap:
📍 Tickets purchased via Klook (or similar platforms) are generally for unreserved seats on local/express trains!
📍 For Meitetsu μ-SKY or reserved seats on Express trains, you need an additional μ-Ticket (priced at ~$3)!
Tickets purchased on platforms like Klook are unreserved seat tickets that only allow you to board regular trains or the ordinary cars of limited express trains. To use the μ-SKY or the reserved seats on limited express trains, you must purchase an additional μ-Ticket for 450 to 500 yen.
Taking the μ-SKY takes about 28 minutes from Chubu Airport to Nagoya Station. This is over 20 minutes faster than the approximately 50 minutes it takes using a regular train.
You can reserve it in advance for 450 yen on the Meitetsu website or purchase it at a ticket machine inside the airport station. If you are in a hurry, you can also board the train first and purchase it from the conductor by paying 500 yen.
You can board the μ-SKY at the blue Platform 1. Meanwhile, regular trains use the green Platform 2, and limited express trains use the red Platform 3, so please check the platform numbers and colors carefully.
