Mungut Tsohio Camp Review: Terelj National Park Stay

For the final night of our incredible journey through Mongolia, we stayed at one of the absolute best properties nestled deep within the stunning Terelj National Park.

If you are planning a Central Mongolia itinerary, Terelj National Park is an absolute must-visit destination.

While it is only about 50 miles (a 1.5-hour drive) from Chinggis Khaan International Airport, we actually took the scenic route, driving about 5 hours in our trusty Russian Furgon van from the Tsenkher Hot Springs.

We rolled into the camp in the early evening, just as the golden hour was starting to paint the landscape.

The camp attracts a wonderful, diverse crowd of international travelers, with many guests visiting from Korea, Japan, and other parts of Asia, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

Right after checking in, we geared up for a horseback riding excursion. Forget those highly restricted, slow-paced tourist trail rides you might find elsewhere—this was a true wilderness adventure that made me want to plan an entire trip just for riding!

We spent about 30 to 40 minutes exploring the vast, open valleys with the friends we met on our 4-day tour. It was the perfect way to truly connect with the Mongolian steppe.

By the time we returned, dinner was ready, and they had prepared a traditional Mongolian feast: Khorkhog! This slow-cooked barbecue was out-of-this-world delicious.

The meat was incredibly tender, and our amazing guide even helped carve it right off the bone for us.

Even our seasoned Furgon driver, who has traveled all across the country and eaten countless traditional meals, agreed that the Khorkhog prepared at Mungut Tsohio Camp is some of the best in Mongolia.

We capped off our final night in Mongolia with a cozy campfire, cold drinks, and endless laughs.

Sitting by a crackling fire under a massive, glittering blanket of stars is an experience that words simply cannot do justice.

We even tried some local Mongolian beers—perfectly chilled and refreshing after a long day of travel.

What made the horseback riding here so special was the route. Instead of just walking on flat ground, we actually rode up and over the mountain ridges surrounding the camp. It was a thrilling, authentic experience you can only find in Mongolia.

Most travelers choose between a Gobi Desert loop or a Central Mongolia route. For busy professionals, a 4-day, 3-night trip is highly manageable and deeply rewarding.

I was incredibly satisfied with this itinerary, and I am already planning to carve out more time in the future to tackle a longer Gobi Desert expedition.
