There's a parking lot right in front of Muan Myeongga, making parking super convenient.
Even if the main lot is full, there were plenty of cars parked on nearby streets, so we easily found a spot on the side road next to the beach.

At the entrance of Muan Myeongga, I was greeted by photos of various seafood dishes, and they all looked incredibly appetizing!

They truly specialize in octopus course meals here, and by ordering a course, you can experience a wide variety of their delicious octopus dishes.

As I stepped inside, I noticed a coffee machine, perfect for a post-meal treat.

My anticipation grew even further when I learned that they had won the Grand Prize at the Muan Culinary Competition – a true testament to their culinary prowess!

Inside, large tanks were brimming with incredibly lively and fresh-looking octopuses – a clear sign of the quality to come!

The restaurant was quite spacious, featuring both a main hall and cozy private rooms – perfect for any dining occasion!

The menu offered a fantastic array of dishes. For individual meals, they had Spicy Eel Stew, Octopus Porridge, Abalone Porridge, Hweddeopbap (raw fish over rice), and Nakji Bibimbap (spicy octopus bibimbap). They also offered Mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup), which sounded perfect for the current weather. But, as expected from this renowned Muan octopus spot, Muan Myeongga's signature offering was truly the octopus course meal. Since we were visiting with the kids, we decided to order the 3-person course.

The octopus course is a true culinary adventure, featuring Mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup), Tangtangi (finely chopped raw octopus), Horong-gui (skewered grilled octopus), Chomuchim (spicy and sour octopus salad), and Yeonpotang (clear octopus soup) – truly allowing you to savor most of their incredible octopus dishes!

Before our food arrived, I took a moment to explore the restaurant and discovered lovely outdoor seating options. With Topmeori Beach just steps away, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy breathtaking ocean views! Dining outside would be absolutely perfect on days when the sun isn't too intense.

Then the feast began! The basic *banchan* (side dishes) started arriving, featuring unique delicacies like Hong-eo (fermented skate) and *saeujeong* (soy-marinated shrimp).

Soon after, fresh abalone and the refreshing Mulhoe made their grand appearance!

We were delighted by the generously-sized, palm-sized abalones that were served.

The mulhoe (spicy raw fish salad) came out packed with crushed ice, looking incredibly refreshing just to behold!

Next up, soy-marinated raw shrimp (saeujan) and fermented skate (hongeo) made their appearance.

Shortly after, the nakji tangtangi (chopped live octopus) arrived!

And for the kids, the beloved corn cheese also came out.

The octopus was so incredibly strong, it was hard to pull apart!

Time to vigorously mix the mulhoe too!
There was plenty of octopus in the mulhoe as well.

The grilled flatfish also arrived, its flesh full and savory.

An essential part of any octopus feast, nakji horong (skewered octopus) made its appearance.

It came out deliciously seasoned with a spicy kick, but it wasn't overly spicy, so we cut it with scissors and enjoyed it with the kids.

After enjoying all the delicious dishes that had come out, we waited a bit for the Yeonpotang (octopus soup) to arrive, as we were told it was coming, but to our surprise, an unexpected visual appeared!

Fellow explorers, can you guess what's in this pot?

The answer is Gim-guk (seaweed soup)!
At Muan Myeongga, they make Yeonpotang (octopus soup) with Gim-guk. I'd never seen it served this way elsewhere, so I was really curious about the taste!

Nakji bokkeum (spicy stir-fried octopus) also arrived, served with a bowl of rice.

They brought out live octopuses, prepared them briefly, and then added them to the Gim-guk.

Once lightly blanched, we cut it with scissors, let it boil for just one more moment, and then it was ready to eat!

I scooped a ladleful of the octopus from the seaweed soup onto a small plate, mixed it lightly with some rice, and took a bite.

The flavor was simply irresistible!

Here are the abalone and octopus in the tank at the entrance.

We enjoyed a delicious family meal at Muan Myungga, a restaurant right in front of Muan's Topmeori Beach, where we could take in the stunning ocean view.
Mellow Trip: Final Thoughts
I recalled a fond memory of eating octopus after a previous trip, which saw me travel from Muan to Japan.
Muan Myungga, located right by Topmeori Beach, truly stands out as an octopus specialty restaurant in Muan, renowned for its exceptional octopus course meal.
It's not one of those famous beaches swarming with tourists, so it was a wonderful spot to enjoy a leisurely meal, after which the children could play in the sand and our mother could take a peaceful stroll, making for a perfectly relaxing time.
I highly recommend it as an excellent choice for a family meal or a pleasant outing, especially if you're exploring the Gwangju area.
