I picked this Fukuoka hotel without much expectation, but it turned out to be surprisingly excellent, so I wanted to share my experience with you.

This is the place! I hadn't researched it beforehand, so I didn't realize it was quite a popular spot. I observed a significant number of Korean guests during my stay.

I stayed here for two nights on a 'workation,' which meant I spent a good amount of time in the lobby. From my observations, the majority of guests seemed to be Korean, followed by Japanese, Western travelers, and then other nationalities. Of course, this was just based on two days of observation and many check-ins, so it's not a definitive generalization, but that was my impression.

Versatile Shared Spaces

One of the biggest advantages of Montan Hakata is its spacious shared lounge on the first floor. It's expansive with plenty of tables, making it perfect for getting some work done, enjoying takeout, or unwinding with a cold beer in the evening with your travel companions.

Coffee, water, and a refrigerator are all available for guests. There's even a collection of manga comics next to it, though they are, of course, in Japanese.

You'll also find a semi-outdoor terrace with hammocks and various seating areas, perfect for a breath of fresh air.

Rooms, Restrooms, and Bathrooms

The spaciousness extends to the rooms as well. For a Japanese hotel, they are surprisingly roomy. Often, budget accommodations in Japan are packed with just a bed and a small table, but here, everything feels comfortably arranged.

I stayed in a single room, and it seems other rooms are similar in size, differing only in bed configuration (double, twin). Montan Hakata also offers a 'Quad' room with two bunk beds, ideal for a family or group of four, making it an unbeatable value among Fukuoka Hakata accommodations.

You'll find a vanity, a table, a comfortable bed, and even a small sink. There's also a microwave, which is a nice touch. Sometimes, the room can feel a bit sparse due to its generous size.

The bathroom features a small but functional bathtub. Basic amenities like toothbrushes are provided, and anything else you might need can be requested at the front desk.

Even lying down, you can appreciate just how spacious it is!

My Stay Experience

The best part for me was undoubtedly the lobby area. It was ideal for getting work done when needed and perfect for a relaxing beer at the end of a long day of exploring. While Montan Hakata is a hostel, offering these fantastic communal spaces, I found the private room option to be the perfect balance. I prefer my own space over dormitories now, so this combination of leveraging the great common areas while having a comfortable private room to sleep in was a winner.

During the day, you can always work from a cafe, but at night, after cafes close, finding a comfortable spot to work can be challenging. Having this space on the first floor of my accommodation was incredibly convenient. Plus, there's a convenience store right nearby!

Stocking up on snacks and drinks for the evening was a breeze.

The ambiance becomes even more inviting in the evening.
