Hey fellow travelers!
If you've been spending your afternoon shopping around Hakata Station, you know how tiring it can get on your feet.
To unwind, I decided to catch the golden hour and headed straight to Seaside Momochi Beach just in time for an epic sunset.
As one of Fukuoka's most iconic coastal getaways and sunset spots, it's a must-visit.
Taking a quick taxi ride from Hakata makes it incredibly easy to fit into a busy day of sightseeing.
In this guide, I'll break down everything you need to know: location, transit options, the beach scenery, and my honest thoughts on the experience!

Momochi Beach is a beautifully designed, modern artificial beach.
Because it sits so close to the city center, it's a popular hangout spot for both locals and travelers alike.
Plus, the iconic Fukuoka Tower is located just a short walk away, making it super easy to pair these two attractions together.
Getting from Hakata to Momochi Beach
You can easily reach Momochi Beach from Hakata Station via bus, subway, or taxi.
If you're carrying heavy shopping bags or feeling exhausted after a long day of walking, I highly recommend opting for a taxi or Uber.
I used an Uber discount voucher for my ride, which made the trip incredibly convenient and budget-friendly!

| Local Bus (No. 306, 312, etc.) | Subway (Subway + Walk) | Taxi (Uber) |
Fare | Approx. 260 JPY (~$1.70) | Approx. 470 JPY (~$3.00) | Approx. 3,392 JPY (~$22.00) |
Duration | Approx. 30–40 mins | Approx. 30 mins | Approx. 19 mins |
Keep in mind that rush-hour traffic can slow things down on the road.
My ride took about 19 minutes, but if you're chasing the sunset, give yourself a bit of a buffer so you don't miss the show!

Beach Scenery & Nearby Facilities
It's hard to believe this is an entirely man-made beach—the sandy shoreline blends beautifully with the ocean views.

Along the boardwalk, you'll find charming little stalls and shops selling local snacks like soft-serve ice cream, hot takoyaki, and refreshing drinks.

The true centerpiece of Momochi Beach is Marizon, a striking European-style building complex floating right over the water.

This area is currently used as a wedding venue, shopping strip, and restaurant hub.
Its foreign, resort-like architecture makes it a highly popular backdrop for photos.

The public restrooms are clean and well-maintained, and there's a cozy indoor rest area situated right in front of them.
Once the sun went down, the sea breeze got surprisingly chilly, so I stepped inside for a quick break to warm up.
While it's warm during the day, the temperature can drop quickly after sunset, sometimes feeling like it is in the low 50s°F. Make sure to dress in layers!

My Personal Sunset Experience
I arrived right as the sky started turning into a beautiful palette of warm orange and purple hues.

The wind off the water was quite brisk, but the relative quietness of the beach made for a lovely, peaceful stroll.

Instead of visiting Momochi Beach as a standalone destination, I highly recommend combining it with other nearby sights to make a complete half-day itinerary.

A great route would be: Head up Fukuoka Tower first, take a relaxing walk along Momochi Beach for sunset, and then grab dinner at a nearby cafe or restaurant.

Overall Verdict

If you're feeling a bit worn out from shopping and exploring the bustling city center, head over to Momochi Beach to unwind, listen to the waves, and enjoy a gorgeous sunset!
