Shanghai Hotel Review: Mercure Lujiazui Binjiang Center Hotel - Location, Subway, Price
Su Pipi @sue__ryan
✅ Price: Around ~$109 per night (not particularly cheap for a Chinese hotel)
✅ 45-minute taxi ride from Pudong Airport
✅ Direct subway access to Nanjing East Road and Xintiandi from nearby stations
✅ Exhibition space nearby, converted from a grain silo
1. Mercure Shanghai Lujiazui Binjiang Center Hotel (NECC) Location
Honestly, the reason I chose this hotel in Shanghai was because I misread the map.
In terms of location, the Oriental Pearl Tower and IFC Mall are about a 10-minute drive away, but Nanjing East Road and Xintiandi felt a bit far.
I also thought being close to the river would mean a fantastic river view, but it wasn't quite what I expected.
I'd recommend this hotel if you're coming for an event or a seminar nearby.
However, if you're just here to sightsee or for a casual trip, it might be a bit harder to recommend.

It took about 40 to 45 minutes by taxi from Pudong Airport to arrive.
It was dark when I arrived, so I couldn't see much, but they kindly helped me with check-in.

The building itself felt a bit compact, and the check-in area wasn't very spacious either.
However, I was able to order delivery in advance, and the food was placed perfectly in the designated spot.
You can refer to the next post for instructions on how to order delivery.

If you're here for school or an event,
and even if it's a bit far, it's not a bad location if you can get there directly by subway.
And if you'll be getting around by taxi, a ten-minute drive isn't bad at all.
then I definitely recommend this hotel.
However, if that's not your case, you might want to explore other hotels in Shanghai.

2. Mercure Shanghai Lujiazui Binjiang Center Hotel Rooms
This is a business-style hotel, priced at around ~$73-~$109 per night.
Overall, I was impressed by the modern interior design.

The mattress wasn't super plush; it had a firmer feel to it.
That's not to say it was hard, though.

A sofa and table were neatly arranged in one corner.
Given that the space wasn't huge, I felt they utilized it very efficiently.

Although the outdoor view wasn't perfectly clear due to the rain, you could see the river on one side and buildings on the other.
It definitely felt like a modern area with plenty of buildings.
However, I didn't spot any buildings within easy walking distance for errands or exploration.

Opening the drawer, I found bottled water, and the wardrobe was an open-style.
It was designed with space for luggage below and hangers for clothes above.

The bathroom didn't have a separate shower booth.
And the washbasin was an open-style, without a door!
It really felt like they utilized the space incredibly efficiently, quite literally!

3. Laundry Room, Gym, and Breakfast at Mercure Shanghai Lujiazui Binjiang Centre
At this hotel, the breakfast area, laundry room, and gym are all conveniently located on the 3rd floor.

Laundry Room: Open 24h
Detergent and Irons Provided in the Laundry Room
The laundry room was fully equipped with both washers and dryers, and even laundry detergent was provided! All I needed was to pay for the wash cycles, and it was ready to use.
I thought this would be incredibly convenient for guests on longer stays.

On one side, there were irons available, and they had both electric irons and steam irons! Talk about being prepared for anything.

Breakfast Hours: 06:30-10:00
Just past the laundry room, you'll find the breakfast restaurant.
Operating hours were from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM.

One side of the restaurant featured large, panoramic windows, but unfortunately, due to the gloomy weather, we didn't get to enjoy a great view.
I heard it's the Huangpu River, and I imagine on a clear day, it would be perfect for a stroll.

The breakfast spread was diverse, plentiful, and impeccably clean.

They offered not only Western-style dishes but also a delightful selection of Chinese cuisine.
And of course, no Chinese breakfast is complete without a warming cup of tea, which was readily available.

The hot dishes were kept warm by heat lamps from above, ensuring everything stayed fresh and delicious.

The cutlery was neatly stored behind small, bottom-hinged doors, which I thought was a fantastic touch to keep everything hygienic and dust-free.

The donuts and other bakery items were also laid out so invitingly.
You know how Chinese desserts just keep getting better and better, right?
The quality of the hotel's bakery seemed quite high.

In one corner, there was a live cooking station offering a variety of freshly prepared dishes, from wonton noodles to Wooyong noodles.
However, the chef didn't speak any English at all, so you'll need to use gestures to order. Remember to pick your vegetables first and hand them over to the chef before they start preparing your dish.
If you just ask for the dish without adding vegetables, you might end up with only the noodles or main ingredients, so keep that in mind!

Here are some fried dishes and fried eggs.
It's a common sight at Chinese hotel breakfasts, but they had piles of fried eggs ready for you to take, which was great.

And something else that stood out was the fruit selection.
Usually, when fruit is served sliced, it can be hard to tell what kind it is, but here, they thoughtfully placed the whole fruit next to the cut pieces, so you know exactly what you're picking!

I started with a simple first plate.
Breakfast was really enjoyable, and the food quality was pretty good too!

Gym hours: 24h
Gym equipment: Limited and space: Cramped
There's a gym nestled between the laundry room and the restaurant, but I have to say, it was quite small.
As you can see, the machines were quite close together, and the overall space itself felt pretty cramped.

The gym also thoughtfully provides towels and water, so if you happen to be short on water during your stay, you might find it convenient to grab some there!

Now, I wouldn't unconditionally recommend this hotel for everyone.
As I mentioned earlier, it could be a great fit if you're visiting for business or planning a longer stay. I'd also recommend it if you're comfortable using the subway or a taxi to explore the various attractions around the city.
However, to be honest, Shanghai boasts so many fantastic hotels. If it's your first time visiting, I'd definitely recommend booking a hotel closer to Nanjing Road East.
For some great value-for-money hotels around Nanjing Road East, you might want to check out Mercure Shanghai Yu Garden, Grand Central Hotel Shanghai, or Central Hotel Shanghai, among others.
