Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre: Your Top Affordable Stay
Searching for a fantastic yet affordable hotel in Singapore? The Mercure Icon City Centre offers an amazing location, clean rooms, and a great pool for your 2026 trip.

Let's be real: Singapore hotels can be notoriously expensive. When planning a trip to this vibrant city, finding an affordable yet quality stay often feels like searching for a needle in a haystack.
That's why I was thrilled to discover the Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre. This hotel truly stands out as a top recommendation for anyone looking for a fantastic value-for-money Singapore hotel. It boasts an incredible location and surprisingly good room conditions for its price point!
Join me as I dive into a detailed review covering its location, rooms, pool, and more. Plus, I'll share some insider tips on how to snag the best deals for your booking!
1. Why the Mercure ICON is a Top Pick for Singapore

📌 The #1 reason to choose Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre?
= Among affordable Singapore hotels, its location is simply unbeatable! 👍🏻
✔ Just a 4-minute walk to the MRT station (directly connected via an underground walkway, making for a cool, comfortable commute).
✔ Famous eateries like Song Fa Bak Kut Teh and Lau Pa Sat are only a 7-minute walk away.
Not only is it conveniently linked underground to Chinatown MRT and Telok Ayer MRT stations, but you'll also find popular spots like Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, Lau Pa Sat, and Ya Kun Kaya Toast incredibly close by!
(From Changi Airport, it's about a 20-minute Grab ride.)

The Mercure ICON Singapore is directly connected to an underground shopping arcade, which in turn leads straight to the MRT station. This means you can easily navigate the city without ever stepping outside into the heat!
Along the underground path to the MRT, you'll find cafes and even a Domino's Pizza, perfect for grabbing a quick bite or coffee on the go. 😊
Seriously, Singapore can be incredibly humid and hot, so this underground access is an absolute lifesaver!
Right outside the hotel, you'll spot a CHEERS convenience store, and there are plenty of popular gelato shops nearby. The area feels very safe and secure, even late at night. I walked back from Lau Pa Sat's famous Satay Street with a gelato in hand, feeling completely at ease!

2. Mercure ICON Singapore: Room Types and Pricing

📌 Room Types Available
Room Type | Beds | Room Size |
Classic Double Room | 1 Queen Bed | 161 sq ft |
Classic Twin Room | 2 Single Beds | 161 sq ft |
Deluxe Triple Room | 1 Single + 1 Double Bed | 183 sq ft |
Deluxe Room | 2 Double Beds | 215 sq ft |
I personally stayed in the Classic Twin Room during my visit.
The Deluxe Triple Room can accommodate up to three guests, and the Deluxe Room can comfortably fit up to four, making it a great option for families or groups of friends traveling together.
In front of the two single beds, there's a bench-like space perfect for laying out your luggage. A dry vanity sink is conveniently located right next to it.
The bathroom itself contains the toilet and a shower stall, with the sink thoughtfully placed outside the main bathroom area for a dry setup.
While the rooms aren't overly spacious, I was incredibly impressed and relieved by how spotlessly clean and well-maintained everything was. That's a huge win in my book!
When researching hotels in Singapore, I noticed that properties with excellent locations often soared past ~$230 per night.
However, this hotel, despite its prime location and great value, I managed to book for around ~$155 per night! That's a steal for Singapore!
I highly recommend checking prices for your specific travel dates in 2026 to see what deals you can find.

3. Inside the Mercure ICON Singapore: The Rooms

A functional desk is positioned in front of the bed, which I found incredibly convenient for quick laptop work or simply organizing my Boston bag and souvenirs.

🍯 Traveler's Tip: The single beds are actually movable! If you push the two single beds against the walls on either side, it creates an enormous amount of space in the middle of the room!
This central area was perfectly sized for opening up two large suitcases – a game-changer for organizing and packing!
As expected from a 4-star Singapore hotel, it came well-equipped with all the essentials. I appreciated the comfortable, thick room slippers, and the hairdryer, despite its appearance, delivered a surprisingly powerful and hot airflow!
Amenities included hand wash, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, alongside disposable items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, and cotton pads, all readily available in the room.
4. The Pool at Mercure ICON Singapore

Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre Pool Hours: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM
The pool is located on the 2nd floor, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it was! It's not just a small plunge pool; it's quite long and spacious, offering fantastic city views. 😌😌
There are plenty of beach chairs and sofas around the pool, making it easy to relax and lounge in between swims.

Fresh body towels are provided at the poolside, so you can simply head down in your room gown and grab a towel there. The restrooms on the pool level are also impeccably clean, which is always a plus.

For those who like to stay active, the gym is also conveniently located on the 2nd floor and is open 24 hours a day!
When I was planning my trip to Singapore, I was initially disheartened by the high hotel prices, typical for such an urbanized and expensive city. Given that Singapore is a compact city with a high cost of living, you often have to compromise on room size if you want a prime location.
In that regard, the Mercure ICON was a huge win! The price, starting around ~$155 per night, felt perfectly reasonable, especially considering I could comfortably open two suitcases in the room. I was absolutely delighted with the unbeatable location of this Mercure ICON property!
(Being so close to the MRT station and within walking distance of popular areas like Chinatown and Lau Pa Sat made getting around incredibly easy.)
