About eight years ago, back in 2018, I lived in Singapore for a year for work. During that time, the Mandarin Oriental was a hotel I always told myself I had to visit!
Back then, I only managed to stay at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and regretted not experiencing the Mandarin Oriental. So, on a recent vacation, I finally made it happen! It's even been featured as a top luxury hotel in Singapore on various travel shows.

The Room
Even though our floor wasn't the highest, we were still assigned a room with a fantastic Marina Bay Sands view! The staff were incredibly friendly, even accompanying us to the room for a quick tour.
The room size was quite generous, making it feel very comfortable and spacious. Honestly, the rooms at Marina Bay Sands Hotel tend to be a bit smaller, so I found the Mandarin Oriental's rooms much more appealing.
From our window, we had a panoramic view of the pool, Marina Bay Sands, and the Singapore Flyer – the view was absolutely stunning! Singapore's night skyline truly is something special.

The Pool
The pool exceeded my expectations – it was even larger and nicer than I'd imagined! With a depth of about 4 feet, it's perfect for a relaxed swim, and there's a dedicated kids' pool, so it attracts a lot of families.
What I loved most was the unobstructed view of Marina Bay Sands from the pool area. It feels so open and refreshing.
While the infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands Hotel is famous, it can get quite crowded with everyone trying to snap photos against one wall, making it a bit challenging to actually swim and play. The Mandarin Oriental's pool, however, isn't as busy, which makes it ideal for truly enjoying the water!

Cabanas and sunbeds are available for free. While the pool wasn't overly crowded, there are only a few cabanas, so if you're keen on snagging one, I recommend heading to the pool in the morning.
We ordered beer, satay, and fries by the pool and it was pure bliss – eating, napping, and swimming. Dining out in Singapore can be quite pricey, and the hotel's poolside menu prices felt comparable to what you'd pay elsewhere, so we didn't hesitate to indulge. The sweet and savory satay is highly recommended!

Location
The Mandarin Oriental is conveniently located just across the street from Marina Bay Sands, about a 10-15 minute walk away. Right next to the hotel, you'll find the famous Makansutra Gluttons Bay hawker center and Marina Square Mall, offering plenty of dining options.
Many of Singapore's main attractions are also nearby, making the location excellent for sightseeing.

The Mandarin Oriental's breakfast spread is extensive and delicious. However, personally, I find hotel breakfasts in Singapore to be quite expensive. I'd consider adding it if traveling with parents or children, but for couples or friends, it might not be a must-have.
Since I usually prefer a light breakfast, I'd probably opt for something simple like Kaya toast at a nearby spot or Toast Box.
Price Comparison
I compared prices for a one-night stay on a weekday in January 2027. Prices can vary depending on the exact dates and any available coupons, so I recommend checking different sites for the best deal!
