Every year, the ticket release dates for the Premier League vary by team. For the current 2026/27 season, Manchester City's official ticket window opened around July 15–16, 2026.
However, planning a trip to the UK that far in advance can be tough. I ended up securing my tickets just about 3 weeks before my trip by grabbing canceled tickets on the official site!
Booking Methods: Official Site vs. Third-Party Resellers
Official Website vs. Resale Platforms

If you buy directly from the official website, tickets can be found for as low as ~$33. On third-party booking platforms, however, you're looking at a starting price of at least ~$124.
Unlike other major clubs, Man City makes it incredibly easy to snag canceled tickets directly from their site, so don't panic! I highly recommend trying the official site first before paying reseller markups.

However, if you are trying to catch high-profile matches against Liverpool, Manchester United, or Arsenal, you will likely have to use third-party platforms.
For these big matches, official tickets are restricted to Matchday Members who have purchased at least 5 home matches since the 2022/23 season. This rule applies to almost all major Premier League clubs to prioritize loyal local fans.
If you're dead-set on a high-profile match, platforms like LiveFootballTickets or Klook are your best bet. Among the resellers, Klook offers some of the most reliable and reasonably priced options.

For almost all Premier League clubs, having an active membership is a prerequisite for buying tickets directly.
You can purchase a Junior Membership for kids or a Matchday Membership for adults.
I wanted a souvenir, so I added the membership pack for an extra ~$10 to get the official scarf. The total membership cost came out to about ~$56, which instantly gave me my unique Supporter Number.
Linking Family & Friends Accounts (Essential for Adjacent Seats)

Since ticket purchases are strictly limited to one ticket per supporter account, anyone going with you must also hold an active membership.
If you want to sit together, head to 'Manage My Account', select 'Manage Relationships', and link your companion's Supporter ID. Once connected, one person can easily purchase two adjacent seats in a single transaction.
When Do Canceled Tickets Drop?

Canceled tickets (or tickets returned by season ticket holders) usually drop in batches about 2 to 3 weeks before the match day. The club doesn't announce an exact release time, so it requires a bit of patience.

We planned to watch the match against Southampton on October 26. I started refreshing the page daily about 3 weeks prior. While single seats popped up occasionally, prime adjacent seats were hard to find initially.
Then, exactly 19 days before the match at around 1:00 PM local time, a massive batch of tickets was released! The front-row seats in the 1st tier sold out almost instantly, but plenty of seats in the back of the 1st tier remained available for quite some time.

Unless it's a massive derby, you'll find plenty of seats popping up right up until two days before the match. By the day before kickoff, however, they are usually fully sold out.

Pro Tip for iPhone Users: You can easily add your mobile ticket directly to your Apple Wallet. About a week before the game, log into your membership account and download the ticket to your device for seamless entry.
Our Experience Sitting on the 1st Tier

Even with the ticket drop, finding absolute side-by-side adjacent seats in the 1st tier can be tricky. My husband suggested that as long as the seats are extremely close (like one row directly in front of the other), we could easily ask someone to swap once we got there.
But as it turned out, the seat right next to my husband remained empty for the entire match! No one showed up, so I just slid over and we watched the match side-by-side. The stadium staff didn't mind at all.
Because Etihad's local attendance can vary slightly for non-derby matches, you'll often find a few empty seats scattered around the 1st tier.

Warning: If you refresh the ticketing page too rapidly, the site might temporarily block your IP. Don't worry—this block automatically lifts within 24 hours. This spam protection is common across almost all Premier League ticketing sites.
Checking Your View with the 3D Seatmap

When booking, you can preview the view from any seat by clicking the 3D view button on the right. If you want to check the perspectives beforehand, you can use the official 3D seatmap tool:

Etihad Stadium Seating Perspectives

This is the view from the very back row of the 1st tier. While you won't see the players' faces clearly, you still get an excellent tactical view of the entire field, making it a very solid option.

And this was our view from the 4th row of the 1st tier. The proximity to the action was absolutely insane!

Being this close to the pitch is a surreal experience. You can hear the players calling for the ball, and your phone camera will capture incredibly detailed shots.

We got to see Pep Guardiola pacing the technical area, Rico Lewis, and Ederson right in front of us!

Best of all, I got a close-up view of my absolute favorite, Erling Haaland, and City took home the win. It was the perfect match day!
Good luck with your ticket hunt, and enjoy the match live at the Etihad!
Tickets are limited to one per supporter, so your companion must also sign up for a membership. After that, you can link your accounts by entering your companion's Supporter ID in the relationship management section under 'Manage my account'. Once linked, one person can purchase two tickets.
Canceled tickets are usually released in bulk 2 to 3 weeks before the match, and the exact date and time are not announced in advance. For the Southampton match mentioned in the article, a large batch of canceled tickets was released around 1:00 PM local time, 19 days before the game.
Tickets for these big matches are officially sold only to members who have purchased tickets for 5 or more home matches since the 2022/23 season. If you do not meet these purchasing requirements, you will need to use third-party ticket agencies like LiveFootballTickets or Klook.
You can download your ticket from the membership menu in your account starting one week before the match. If you download it during this time, the ticket will be automatically saved to your iPhone Wallet, allowing for convenient entry at the stadium.
