Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) offers incredibly smooth transfers and excellent domestic flight connections within Thailand.

• International flight to Bangkok: Approx. 5-6 hours (from nearby Asian hubs, longer from further away)

• Bangkok to Krabi: Approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

If you're new to international travel or prefer a stress-free connection, I highly recommend flying via Bangkok. The airport signage is clear, and the transfer process is straightforward. You can even plan a layover to enjoy some Bangkok massages or shopping before heading to Krabi the next day!

2) Via Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) (Budget-Friendly)

AirAsia often offers competitive prices, making this a popular choice for solo travelers or those prioritizing cost savings.

• International flight to Kuala Lumpur: Approx. 7 hours

• Kuala Lumpur to Krabi: Approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

However, be aware that KLIA2, the low-cost carrier terminal, is quite large. If your layover is only 1-2 hours, it can be a bit tight. I personally weighed the cost savings of KL against the ease of Bangkok and ultimately chose Bangkok to minimize transfer stress.

However, if you plan to spend 1-2 nights in Phuket first and then move to Krabi, it becomes a much more relaxed option. Phuket is also close to Phi Phi Islands and is a popular destination itself, so if you have the time, combining Phuket and Krabi is a fantastic idea!

2. Getting to Krabi from Your Transfer Point

Now, let's dive into the specifics of how to actually reach Krabi from your chosen transfer hub. This is often the trickiest part of planning!

1) Bangkok → Krabi (Domestic Flight)

This is by far the most convenient option. If your international and domestic flights align well, delays are usually minimal, and the drive from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang is only about 40 minutes. This was my final choice for its reliability and ease.

Upon arrival, you can head straight to Ao Nang, or even squeeze in a relaxing massage before checking into your accommodation.

2) Phuket → Krabi (Land Transfer)

Traveling from Phuket to Krabi by car or minivan takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. It might seem a bit far at first glance, but it's a very popular and widely used option.

The main advantage is convenience. A driver will pick you up directly from your accommodation and take you straight to your Krabi hotel. It's a hassle-free method, provided you're okay with the travel time. The downside is the potential fatigue from a longer journey.

I spent a lot of time debating whether to travel directly upon arrival in Phuket or to rest a night before moving on. Ultimately, an overnight stay in Phuket makes it much more manageable.

3) Phuket → Krabi (Ferry/Speedboat)
