Kensington Resort Gapyeong Premier Room BBQ Review: Honest Pros & Cons of This Family Stay
Words & Photos ©️Yoonne
Hello, everyone! 🩷
I'm travel blogger Yoonne!
When planning a family trip to Gapyeong,
I bet you've spent hours digging through countless accommodation reviews.
Especially when looking for a place to stay for a family of 4 or more,
Gapyeong seems to be overflowing with couple-only pensions,
making it so much harder to find the perfect fit.

I recently planned a 2-day, 1-night getaway to Gapyeong with my family
to celebrate my mom’s birthday,
and read so many reviews of the Premier Room
at Kensington Resort Gapyeong before booking.
Now that I've actually stayed there, I wanted to share my honest take
on what was great and what fell a bit short.
If you're on the hunt for the ultimate family-friendly stay,
be sure to read this post to the very end
to grab all my insider tips!
Why We Chose Kensington Resort Gapyeong

Located at 430 Cheonggun-ro, Sang-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do,
Kensington Resort Gapyeong is in a fantastic location
for easily heading to top spots
like the Garden of Morning Calm.

Most accommodations in Gapyeong
cater mainly to couples or smaller groups,
making it quite a challenge to find a place for four.
But even for a weekend stay, Kensington Resort was
extremely reasonable at ~$83 per night for 4 people.
Plus, Yeogi Eottae is currently offering discount coupons,
so you can apply domestic accommodation coupons
to secure your booking at the absolute lowest price!

Even a 4% discount feels like a total win!

Even though the reviews mentioned the facilities were a bit dated,
most guests agreed it was clean and convenient,
which made me feel confident in booking it.
Keep This in Mind Before Booking Kensington Resort Gapyeong

At check-in, I asked if we could pay extra
to upgrade our room,
but they were completely booked for the night, with all bed-style rooms sold out,
leaving only the traditional Ondol (floor-heating) rooms.

I originally wanted to stay in the newly renovated
Premier Plus room,
but since that was sold out too,
we ended up in the Ondol-type Premier Room.

Since this resort is way more popular than I realized,
if you’re planning a trip during weekends or peak season,
it's highly recommended to lock down your preferred room type
well in advance..!

Free Wi-Fi, free parking,
and access to the outdoor pool are all included as standard.

Reading through the reviews on local booking apps,
some mentioned that because the building is a bit dated, it can get warm in the summer,
and that the small air conditioners run a bit loud.
When we stayed,
we did feel that the facilities were slightly aged.

But honestly, we didn't experience any other major inconveniences!
On the flip side, there are tons of reviews raving about the outdoor activities like rabbit feeding,
which makes this a massive plus
for families traveling with young kids.

Looking at the ratings across various booking platforms,
guests seemed much more satisfied with the spacious layout
and practical perks like in-room cooking and BBQ facilities, rather than luxury.
I couldn't agree more!
My Honest Review of the Premier Room at Gapyeong Kensington Resort

The Premier Room (Ondol/Korean underfloor heating type) is about 92 square meters (approx. 28 pyeong)
and features a combined living room and bedroom, an Ondol room,
a kitchen, and a bathroom.

The absolute biggest highlight was that we could cook our own meals!

When I went to prepare a birthday breakfast the next morning,
I panicked a bit because the induction cooktop wouldn't turn on.

However, after a quick call to the front desk,
a maintenance technician rushed over and got it working in no time.
Talk about fast and friendly service! Loved it!

The fridge and standard cooking utensils
were all perfectly fine to use,
but there were no tongs or paper towels.
So, if you're planning on whipping up a feast,
I highly recommend bringing those along!

While the bathroom was stocked with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner,
there were no toothbrushes or toothpaste, so...
But if you forgot to pack something,
you can always drop by the resort's convenience store!

We visited over the weekend.
Since it was Saturday to Sunday, we made sure to book the BBQ area in advance.

Since I was traveling with my parents,
we ended up purchasing a BBQ package,
and the 4-person package was incredibly well-stocked and convenient!
The only minor downside was that there were no wine glasses provided.

Also, keep in mind that if you request extra towels,
they only provide up to 2 additional ones,
which is a good detail to know beforehand.
Quick Wrap-up of Gapyeong Kensington Resort Premier Room Review

While it might not have the ultra-modern, trendy vibe of a newly built resort,
when you consider the price, location, and spacious layout,
it's an incredibly value-packed, budget-friendly accommodation
for a family of four.

With an Ashley Queens restaurant, lovely walking trails,
and even a Cocomong Kids Zone,
I highly recommend it if you're looking for a family stay in Gapyeong!

Just keep in mind that your preferred room type or upgrades
might not be available if the resort is fully booked.
So, especially for weekends or peak travel seasons,
I highly recommend booking well in advance!
