If you're traveling without a car, the ITX Cheongchun train (ITX 청춘열차) is your best bet for getting to Gapyeong (가평역) from Seoul.
In Seoul, the ITX Cheongchun train makes stops at three main stations: Yongsan (용산역), Wangsimni (왕십리역), and Cheongnyangni (청량리역). I personally boarded from Yongsan Station.
1. ITX Train Essentials

✅ ITX Cheongchun Train Times & Fares
Departure Station | Travel Time | Fare |
Yongsan Station | Approx. 1 hour | ₩6,900 (~$5) |
Cheongnyangni Station | Approx. 45 minutes | ₩5,700 (~$4) |
Wangsimni Station | Approx. 40 minutes | ₩5,900 (~$4) |
The first trains typically depart between 5 AM and 7 AM, with the last departures around 10 PM. You can check the detailed timetable when you book your ticket. Keep in mind that weekday and weekend schedules often differ!

You can easily book your tickets through the official KorailTalk (코레일톡) app or via Naver (네이버) (just search 'train tickets' on Naver). Choose whichever is more convenient for you.
2. Booking Your Train Ticket

Since the ITX Cheongchun train is the only direct train from Seoul to Gapyeong Station, you'll simply search for routes from Yongsan, Wangsimni, or Cheongnyangni Station to Gapyeong Station. Then, select your preferred time slot from the available trains.

Next, you'll choose your desired seat. It's crucial to check if the seat is forward or backward-facing. Traveling backward can surprisingly cause motion sickness for some!

When selecting your seat, you can use the train's "preview" function. This lets you check the seat width, window location, and even power outlet availability. This feature is supported on both mobile and PC, so make sure to take advantage of it.
3. From Yongsan Station to Gapyeong Station

I boarded the ITX Cheongchun train from Yongsan Station. I took Subway Line 1 from the Gasan (가산) area to Yongsan Station. After exiting the subway, I headed upstairs and saw platforms 1 through 6.

The boarding platform for the Gapyeong ITX Cheongchun train is Platform 1!

Yongsan Station's subway platform isn't overly complex, and the signs for the Gapyeong train are prominently displayed. You shouldn't have any trouble finding your way, even if it's your first time.

There's a self-service ticket machine right in front of Platform 1, so you can buy ITX Cheongchun tickets on the spot. However, popular time slots can sell out quickly, so I highly recommend booking in advance if possible.

If you arrived at Yongsan by subway, like I did, you MUST tap out your transit card BEFORE boarding the Cheongchun train! Conversely, if you enter Yongsan Station directly to take the ITX train, you won't need to use this machine; simply tag your train ticket QR code at the turnstile to enter.
Situation | Transit Card Tap |
Arrived at Yongsan Station via Subway Line 1 | Subway Exit Tap |
Entering Yongsan Station directly for ITX | No Transit Card Tap |
Arrived at Yongsan Station after Gapyeong trip → Using Subway | Subway Entry Tap |
Arrived at Yongsan Station after Gapyeong trip → Using Bus/Taxi | No Transit Card Tap |
Transit card tap-out machines are located in front of the escalator at Platform 1, and several more are installed within the platform area.

Look for the "ITX Cheongchun" floor markings and your train car number on the platform. Just stand in front of your reserved car number.

I sat in the very first row, which had a power outlet, so I could charge my phone during the journey.

Plus, the seat width felt a bit more spacious than other areas.

Upon arrival at Gapyeong Station, simply show your ITX Cheongchun QR code at the turnstile to exit!

Many visitors head to popular spots like Nami Island or The Garden of Morning Calm when in Gapyeong. If you haven't prepared your activity tickets yet, you can always look them up during your train ride!
