JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong Review
Words and Photos by: Rested

The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong was my home away from home for a fantastic three-night, four-day stay during my recent trip to Shanghai.
As part of Marriott's luxury portfolio, this stunning 5-star property offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Huangpu River you'll find anywhere in Pudong.

While I was flying solo on this trip—and honestly, wishing my partner was there to share it—I couldn't wait to share my full room review and experience at this incredible hotel.

The hotel is perfectly situated in Pudong, right on the eastern banks of the Huangpu River.
You're treated to a spectacular skyline of high-rises just across the water.
There's also a sleek yacht marina sitting right in front of the property.
I stayed in the second room from the left side of the building,
and looking out to the right, I could catch a faint glimpse of The Bund
and the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower.
If you manage to snag a room further to the right,
you'll likely have an even better, unobstructed view of these landmarks!

Stay Dates: 05/20/2026 - 05/23/2026 (3 Nights, 4 Days)
This was my basecamp for the entirety of my Shanghai adventure.
For a weekday stay, the City View room for two people
runs about ~$192 per night.
If you want to upgrade to the River View (which I highly recommend),
it's only an additional ~$38 per night compared to the City View.

3. Inside the King Guest Room

Here is a look at the King Bed Guest Room I stayed in.
It was located on the 18th floor, and the panoramic views did not disappoint.
The room itself is incredibly spacious at 495 sq ft.
It’s thoughtfully designed with a plush sofa and a sleek table
perfectly positioned by the window so you can kick back and soak in the skyline.
They even left a lovely welcome fruit platter on the table.

One of the most unique design choices here is
the standalone bathtub situated right in the center of the room.
The idea is to soak in the tub while gazing out
at the spectacular city views.
Unfortunately, my itinerary was so packed
I didn't get the chance to use it—a major regret!
And don't worry, the tub isn't permanently exposed;
there's a sliding partition you can close if you prefer privacy.

The bathroom setup features a stylish double vanity in the open area.
The rainfall shower and the toilet are tucked away in their own separate glass enclosures.

For amenities, they stock the vanity and shower
with the products shown in the photos above.
They use Aromatherapy Associates,
a premium Spanish brand
you usually only find in luxury spas and high-end hotels.

There’s a fully equipped coffee machine and plenty of tea bags,
though I was eating out so much I barely touched them.
They generously provide four complimentary bottles of water daily,
which meant I never had to worry about staying hydrated.

Here’s a quick snap of the minibar.
Again, I left this untouched during my stay!

Inside the closet, you’ll find plush robes and slippers.
Both had this incredibly soft lining that felt super comfortable after a long day.
4. Breakfast Buffet Experience

Breakfast is served at the restaurant on the second floor.
Instead of one massive, overwhelming dining hall,
the space is cleverly divided into distinct sections based on cuisine.
The spread features a massive continental buffet
alongside interactive stations where you can order authentic Chinese noodle dishes.

While the restaurant area didn't feel overwhelmingly huge,
it was never crowded, no matter what time I went down.
The menu variety was excellent,
and overall, it was a thoroughly satisfying way to start each morning.
5. Final Thoughts

That wraps up my review of the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong!
Between the mesmerizing day-to-night views of the Huangpu River
and the impeccable five-star service, it’s an absolute winner.
If you're planning a romantic getaway or just want to treat yourself to a luxurious staycation in Shanghai,
I can't recommend it enough.
