When you're planning your Shanghai independent travel itinerary,

the biggest headache is always accommodation, right?

I really wanted to see the dazzling Bund night view,

shop 'til I drop on Nanjing East Road,

and easily hop on the subway from People's Square Station,

so I agonized over the perfect location!

When I started looking, I was genuinely shocked to find that hotels right on Nanjing East Road were easily over ~$146-219 per night.

But then, if I went too far out to the suburbs, I figured the DiDi (ride-hailing) fares would just add up to the same amount.

So, I diligently searched for a place that balanced both great value and an unbeatable location, and I found it!

And now, my honest, 'paid-for-with-my-own-money' review begins!

1. Unbeatable Location: Just a 5-Minute Walk to People's Square, Plus Incredible Value!

The official name of this hotel is

The name is quite long and hard to remember, but honestly,

all you really need to know is that it's located right in the 'center of Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street.'

2. Shanghai Jinjiang Inn Hotel: Inside and Out

When I stayed, it was around ~$66 per night, which felt super affordable at about ~$29 each when split with a friend.

I just checked, and even now,

the average price per night is still around ~$58-72!

Honestly, since it's not a 4- or 5-star hotel,

I didn't have super high expectations for the room condition.

But after staying for 4 nights myself, what was the verdict?!

For business travelers or budget-conscious independent explorers,

it had just what you needed, neatly arranged.

The bathroom was also spacious and clean!

And it had a super huge showerhead!

you might hear a bit of noise from people
