For this trip,

I checked in at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 (T1).

On my departure day, check-in was at Counter J.

The queue wasn't too long, so the process went pretty quickly. The automated check-in kiosks were surprisingly convenient!

Matsuyama Airport is quite small, but the check-in and security processes are extremely thorough.

(And by extremely, I mean *very* strict!)

3. International Security Check (where carry-on liquids are meticulously inspected)

(Warning) Check-in closes strictly 1 hour before departure.

The return baggage allowance is the same: 33 lbs (15 kg) checked, 22 lbs (10 kg) carry-on.

Power Bank Carry-On Regulations

With strict rules around lithium-ion batteries lately, here is a quick breakdown of what you can bring:

✔ Under 100Wh

→ Allowed in carry-on luggage without prior airline approval (most standard power banks).

✔ 100Wh to 160Wh

→ Allowed in carry-on luggage only after receiving airline approval.

✔ Over 160Wh

→ Strictly prohibited on board.

And most importantly:

❌ Power banks are strictly prohibited in checked baggage.

You must carry them with you in your carry-on bag!

Most standard personal power banks are well under 100Wh, so you shouldn't have any issues.

When you think of Matsuyama, this is the first place that comes to mind!

Dogo Onsen (道後温泉)

Boasting over 3,000 years of history, it is celebrated as one of Japan's oldest and most historic hot springs!

It is also famously known as the architectural inspiration for the bathhouse in Studio Ghibli's classic film, Spirited Away.

It is not just about soaking in the hot springs:

It is absolutely an essential stop on any Matsuyama itinerary! :)

I highly recommend visiting at night when the bathhouse is beautifully lit up!

🚋 How to Get to Dogo Onsen from Downtown Matsuyama (Tram Guide)

Taking the Iyotetsu Tram is the easiest and most convenient way to travel from downtown Matsuyama to Dogo Onsen.

📍 Boarding Location

Tram stop near the Okaido Shopping Arcade (or any central downtown tram station).

🚋 Tram Lines

Take Tram Line 3 or 5 and ride it to the terminal stop: Dogo Onsen Station.

⏰ Travel Time

Approximately 15 minutes.

💴 Fares

Adults: 230 JPY (approx. $1.50)

Children: 120 JPY (approx. $0.80)

Infants: Free

IC transit cards are accepted.

♨️ Arriving at Dogo Onsen

Once you step off the tram at Dogo Onsen Station, you'll find yourself right at the entrance of the Dogo Onsen shopping arcade and main bathhouse. Souvenir shops, cafes, and street food are all within easy walking distance!

✔️ Board through the rear door and exit from the front door.

✔️ Press the stop button when your station is announced.
