During a recent trip to Yangyang, after an exhilarating surfing session with my kids at Dongho Beach, we were on the hunt for a truly local dining experience. A recommendation from a local led us to Jayeon Myeonok, and I'm excited to share our review!

Even thinking about those refreshing summer flavors now brings a warm feeling. It's the kind of place that creates lasting memories!

The restaurant offers convenient parking right out front, which is always a plus when traveling!

The restaurant stands as a standalone building right off the road, giving it a modern yet inviting feel.

We arrived just in time, as shortly after we settled in, some menu items were already sold out for the day! It's clear this place is incredibly popular with both locals and visitors.

Jayeon Myeonok Menu Highlights

When you think of Gangwon Province cuisine, two dishes immediately come to mind: Makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and Memil Jeonbyeong (savory buckwheat pancakes). Thankfully, Jayeon Myeonok serves both of these regional specialties, and they are absolutely delicious!

There's even a charming bench out front, perfect for a little relaxation after your meal.

As expected, the dining area was completely packed with happy customers – a testament to its popularity!

The entrance area was well-maintained, and I noted the restrooms were conveniently located right by the entrance.

Our Order

First to arrive at our table was the Memil Jeonbyeong, the regional buckwheat pancakes. If you're visiting Gangwon Province, this is an absolute must-try!

They were perfectly crispy on the outside, with a delightful texture, and simply delicious!

Next up, the refreshing Naengmyeon (cold noodles).

On a warm summer day, there's truly nothing better than a bowl of perfectly chilled Naengmyeon. It's always a treat!

The broth was incredibly flavorful, and I appreciated how clean and well-maintained both the restaurant and the food presentation were. It truly enhanced the dining experience.

And of course, the Makguksu arrived! The noodles had that distinct, slightly subtle and non-overpowering flavor that is so characteristic of authentic Gangwon-do cuisine. It’s a truly refreshing and unique taste.

While we were enjoying our meal, we noticed some latecomers being turned away because several items had already sold out. It seems Jayeon Myeonok prepares a specific quantity each day, ensuring freshness and quality, so it’s best to arrive earlier!

If you're traveling with little ones, I highly recommend ordering the Galbitang (short rib soup) for them. The broth and soups here are consistently delicious, making it a perfect, comforting option for kids!

Final Thoughts from a Family Traveler

While cold noodles might seem like a summer dish, I bet the Naengmyeon and Makguksu would be just as delightful on a crisp winter day, bringing back those warm memories of summer. This was my delightful visit to Jayeon Myeonok, a true hidden gem near Yangyang's Dongho Beach.
