Even after visiting Bali and the Gili Islands several times, Jakarta was always a city I just bypassed.

Despite being the capital of Indonesia, there weren't many convenient direct flights from Korea,

and honestly, even flying from places like Hanoi, heading straight to Bali was just much easier.

But starting from late April this year, new direct flights between Incheon and Jakarta have launched!

Thinking about starting our next trip in Jakarta when my friends visit from Korea,

I decided to do some proper research on Jakarta travel info from scratch.

Today, I'm sharing everything I found!

Jakarta Travel Essentials

Indonesia Visa: e-VOA

Time Difference: 2 hours behind Korea/KST (Bali is only 1 hour behind, so don't get them mixed up!)

Weather: Warm year-round; the dry season from May to October is the best time to visit

Voltage: 220V, Type C/F outlets (Standard European/Korean plug types work perfectly)

Visa: Required. Choose between applying for an e-VOA online beforehand or getting a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at the airport

Just like in Bali, you won't need a special adapter if you use Type C/F plugs.

When I visited Bali, I applied for my e-VOA in advance,

and since Jakarta is in the same country, the process is exactly the same.

Lines for the Visa on Arrival at the airport can get super long, so I highly recommend applying online beforehand for peace of mind!

One thing to watch out for is the time difference.

Bali is 1 hour behind Korea, but Jakarta is 2 hours behind.

Since they're in different time zones within the same country,

if you're planning a combined Jakarta-Bali itinerary,

make sure you don't get confused when checking domestic flight schedules!

📍Monas (National Monument)

The ultimate symbol of Jakarta.

Located right in the middle of Merdeka Square, it seems like the perfect landmark to anchor your city exploration.

The largest mosque in Southeast Asia.

The vibe here will be completely different from Hindu-majority Bali,

and that cultural contrast is exactly why I'm so excited to visit Jakarta!

A historic square filled with beautiful Dutch colonial-era architecture.

With museums and charming cafes lined up, it’s the perfect place to spend a relaxed half-day.

How to Find the Best Food in Jakarta

I ate my weight in Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, and Sate during my time in Bali.

While the staple dishes will be familiar since it's the same country,

I've read so many reviews saying that as the capital, the food scene is next level—ranging from humble local warungs to exquisite fine dining.

The style of food I’m most curious about is Padang cuisine.

Apparently, they set up dozens of small plates all over your table, and you only pay for what you actually eat.

I never got to try an authentic Padang restaurant in Bali,

so it is definitely at the top of my list for Jakarta!

Since it gets pretty hot during the day, grabbing lunch inside a mall

will probably be the best way to beat the heat and save energy, just like in Bali.

Shopping in Jakarta

Jakarta is famously nicknamed the "City of Malls."

While shopping in Canggu, Bali, was all about surf brands

and hip select shops like Deus and Ticket to the Moon,

Jakarta is all about that massive, sleek city mall shopping experience.

I heard the capital offers a much wider variety of batik products and specialty coffee,

I'm planning to buy all my souvenirs in Jakarta.

Incheon to Jakarta Direct Flight｜T'way Air Schedule

Having struggled with a super early morning flight to Bali in the past,

I absolutely love this flight schedule.

Just keep in mind that flight schedules can change, so be sure to double-check before booking.

While researching this newly launched route, I found a very pleasant surprise.

Even though it's a low-cost carrier (LCC), so many premium perks are included as standard.

In-flight meals: Free for all seats! You can choose Bibimbap or Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl on the outbound flight,

and Bulgogi Rice Bowl or Ragu Meatball Pasta on the return flight.

Special meals (like Halal or Vegan options) can be requested up to 3 days before departure.

Since Indonesia is such a fantastic place for shopping,

I’m even more thrilled about the generous baggage allowance.

Getting up to 23kg for Economy and 40kg for Business class is incredibly generous.

The Economy seats don't feel cramped at all.

With a 32-inch seat pitch and handy USB ports,

you won't have to worry about charging your devices,

even if using personal power banks in flight is restricted.

With this new direct flight, here is the itinerary I'm most excited to try.

Since T'way also operates a Cheongju-Bali (Denpasar) route,

you can fly into Jakarta, explore Java (like Borobudur in Yogyakarta and Bandung),

take a domestic flight to Bali, and then fly home directly from Bali!

The domestic flight between Jakarta and Bali takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes,

and with plenty of flights available, finding a schedule that fits your plans is a breeze.

However, since the flight from Incheon arrives at 8:10 PM,

it's much better to stay in Jakarta for at least a night rather than rushing a same-day transfer.

Of course, if you're only heading to Bali for a quick getaway, there's no reason to transit through Jakarta.
