Taking T'way Air from Cheongju Airport
Our Journey to Denpasar Airport, Bali
How many hours before departure
should I arrive at Cheongju Airport?
📌 For international departures from Cheongju Airport
Entry to the gate area is possible 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure
I've traveled internationally from Cheongju before,
but there's really not much to do.
(If you plan to eat, check below)
If you're planning an international trip departing from Cheongju Airport,
arriving 2 hours beforehand is plenty!
If you're coming by car, take note ⬇️
Arriving at Cheongju Airport on a weekday afternoon (Thursday),
I was surprised to find the parking lots full;
Both Parking Lots 1 and 2 were marked 'full,'
but I decided to check Parking Lot 1 anyway, and it was indeed full.
When I went to Parking Lot 2, a car happened to be leaving,
so I managed to park and entered the airport.
As international flights continue to depart from Cheongju,
the number of travelers has increased, making parking more difficult than before.
If you're considering parking,
make sure to allow plenty of extra time for any unexpected situations!

T'way Air's new route from Cheongju to Bali
made it possible to book tickets at a very affordable price!
Having been to Cheongju Airport a few times, I immediately
headed left upon entering, took the escalator, and went up to the second floor.
If you have checked baggage, head to the T'way Air counter on the left
to check it in and complete your check-in!
International Departures are on the far left of the 2nd floor

It's been a few months since I last visited Cheongju Airport,
and new shops have opened up in the meantime.
The most noticeable addition was definitely No Brand Burger,
along with other burger joints and restaurants.
Before, it was hard to find good food or things to do at Cheongju Airport,
but now there's a bit more variety in dining options.

There's also a pharmacy on the far right of the second floor at Cheongju Airport.
As a side note, when checking my carry-on,
I realized I had a lotion that exceeded the 100 ml limit and almost had to throw it away.
A kind staff member told me I could buy a special container at the pharmacy,
transfer the lotion, and come back. So I bought a container for ~$0 at the pharmacy and switched it out;
Pharmacy, nice! 🤣👍

You can find the entrance to international departures
on the 2nd floor of Cheongju Airport.
Entry possible 1 hour and 30 minutes
before departure
What was great about Cheongju Airport was that
they provided insulating tape to cover the charging terminals of power banks,
so I could prepare mine while waiting in line.

A must-read for anyone flying T'way Air
from Cheongju to Bali
Free carry-on baggage up to 10 kg
Unlike flights to other destinations,
baggage weight for Bali flights is checked very carefully, so be mindful.
Each personal item will receive a carry-on baggage tag,
which is attached to each piece of luggage.
They carefully check baggage weight before boarding,
so be careful not to exceed the limit.
In fact, some people who bought a lot of duty-free items
had to pay extra for overweight baggage.

Once you pass security at Cheongju Airport and head inside,
there's a Twosome Place, so you can easily
grab a coffee or a drink before boarding your flight.
(Buying a drink and enjoying it on the plane was a sweet treat!)
Note: AeroK doesn't allow sandwiches onboard, so keep that in mind.

Our T'way flight was scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM,
but due to a connecting flight delay, we departed 20 minutes late.

The T'way plane for our Cheongju-Bali flight
was a new model, and it definitely felt modern.
For an adult male, your knees would lightly touch the seat in front,
while for an adult female, there was a bit of room left.

The headrest cushion could move up and down,
allowing you to adjust it comfortably.
The seat in front had a separate holder
where you could mount your phone,
which was perfect for watching movies or dramas throughout the flight.

Arrival at Bali Denpasar Airport
It was really convenient because I had already prepared everything I needed for my Bali trip in advance.
(See the link below for details)

A spacious area unfolds, and in the middle of this space,
you'll see something like an information desk.
Just like in the far right photo,
you purchase your Visa On Arrival at a place that looks like an information desk.
Visa On Arrival
500,000 Rupiah per person
Fee 24,500
= Total 524,500 Rupiah
(~$33)
Cash or card payment available

I paid for my Bali Visa On Arrival directly with my Travelog card
and used it right away.
(Almost no wait, many booths available)

There were many machines available
to make immigration easy.
At first, I tried scanning my passport with a machine,
but it didn't work, so I decided to line up for manual inspection.

I had already prepared for my Bali trip with
my All-Indonesia preparations and Visa On Arrival,
so I waited in the line, and it was incredibly long.
It looked like a queue that would take at least an hour.
One of my companions found it strange that it wasn't working,
so they tried the automated machine again, and it worked!!!
It was a shame we waited so long,
but getting through quickly is the best, so
we tried the machine for immigration again, and it worked! 😒
So, for everyone getting their Visa On Arrival on the spot,
don't queue up thinking the automatic machines won't work.
Just use the machines for immigration!
What if it doesn't work?
I recommend trying an adjacent machine.
(It seems each machine might behave differently even with the same attempt.)

Before my Bali trip, I made sure to pack all my essentials,
which made immigration a breeze!
The baggage claim area was also quite spacious,
and Bali's Denpasar Airport itself was bigger than I expected!

Once you pass the baggage claim and head further inside,
you'll start seeing currency exchange counters and banks.
For withdrawing Rupiah with Travelog,
it's free at BNI ATMs.
Not just BNI,
but it was also free at Mandiri ATMs
(I tried this in Ubud town.)

Just switch the language to English,
and you can easily withdraw Rupiah with your Travelog card!
There are plenty of ATMs throughout Bali's towns,
making it easy to withdraw Rupiah with Travelog,
so I recommend only withdrawing what you need at the airport for now.

Since Denpasar Airport is so large, everywhere you go,
you'll find plenty of currency exchange booths and SIM card shops.
You'll also spot Burger King and Starbucks,
they've got everything you could possibly need! Haha

Although the photo is a bit shaky, as you keep walking straight,
you'll see the Grab pickup point,
and the exit will be right in front of you, so no worries!
It feels like the Bali adventure truly begins right from the airport!
If you've booked a jeep tour, which is a highlight of any Bali trip,
you can wait at the airport for your guide
and start your adventure as soon as you meet them.
For my pre-booked jeep tour,
I had to wait a bit at Denpasar Airport,
but luckily, there was a Klook exclusive lounge
where I could relax comfortably before my trip began! 👍
(I'll share more about this in the next review.)
