Getting from Istanbul Airport to the City Center
There are four main ways to reach the city center from Istanbul Airport:
Shuttle bus, subway, taxi, or rental car.
For the shuttle bus, head to Level B2 to purchase your ticket and board. The Taksim route is HVL-9, and the Aksaray route is HVL-1. Both cost 275 Turkish Lira and take approximately 90 minutes.
A taxi is the most expensive transportation option, costing around 2,300 Turkish Lira and taking about 30 minutes.
The subway, which has been operating since 2023, runs 24 hours a day. The M11 line will take you to Kağıthane Station in about 27 minutes for 27 Turkish Lira.
It's a good idea to withdraw some Turkish Lira at the airport using your travel card.
Your Path to the Istanbul Airport Metro
The subway is likely the most affordable way to get into the city from the airport.
While most accommodations are in Taksim, the subway offers connections to various destinations with a transfer. Plus, with its 24-hour operation, taking the subway to the city center is highly recommended.

After completing immigration, follow the red 'U METRO' signs.

Since the subway station isn't directly inside the airport terminal, make sure to follow the signs carefully.

You'll pass through a tunnel-like area. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from the airport to the subway station.

At the end of the tunnel, you'll see a sign. Head either right or left to take the elevator down to the subway level.

The subway platform is on Level B2.

Boarding the Istanbul Airport Subway
I'll cover how to get a subway card and how to board in a separate post. For now, simply know you'll need to get a subway card, load it with funds, and then you can board the subway.

The subway trains are similar to what you'd find in most major cities, and the interiors were remarkably clean.

The M11 line currently only goes as far as Kağıthane Station, so you'll need to transfer if you're heading to other parts of the city. Why not experience the convenience and affordability of taking the subway into Istanbul's vibrant city center?
