1. Imoya Kinjiro Tenjin: The New Location

Once you head down into the underground mall from street level, you'll want to navigate towards the East 11 and East 12a exits. That's your landmark!
Looking at a map, it's conveniently located between Godiva and Kaldi. If you spot those two stores first, Imoya Kinjiro will be right next door, making it super easy to find.
It's not far from its old spot, but this isn't just a simple move. The new store now features an in-house workshop!
This means you can now enjoy freshly baked sweet potatoes and even soft-serve ice cream, which are fantastic new additions!
Avoiding the Crowds: Openings and Wait Times

As a huge fan of root vegetables myself, Imoya Kinjiro is a mandatory stop every time I'm in Fukuoka.
Many people try to "open run" – arriving right at opening time – and end up waiting in line for dozens of minutes.
I've visited about five times so far, usually arriving between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM, and typically only waited about 10 minutes to make my purchase.
Based on my experience, there's no need to rush for an open run. Just factor it into your morning itinerary, and you should be good to go!
What to Buy at Imoya Kinjiro?

First up is Tsubu Kenpi, which are basically crumbled Imokenpi sweet potato sticks pressed together.
They're less rigid than regular Imokenpi and have a delightful, crispy texture that practically melts in your mouth.
Since they're individually packaged, they make perfect little gifts for coworkers or friends back home!

Beyond the classic sweet potato sticks, I also tried TSUBU CHOCO and KIRICO dried sweet potato.
TSUBU CHOCO offers a delightful crunchy and sweet experience, while KIRICO is a chewy, satisfying dried sweet potato treat.
If you're a chocolate lover, go for TSUBU CHOCO. But if you prefer the pure, natural taste of sweet potato, KIRICO is your pick!

When it comes to their packaged products, you'll mainly find Imokenpi, Shiokenpi, and Sweet Potato Chips.
Imokenpi is your classic sweet potato stick, offering that delightful natural sweetness. Shiokenpi adds a savory twist with a hint of salt, creating a perfect sweet-and-salty balance. And the Sweet Potato Chips are thinly sliced and fried to a crisp perfection.

Out of the three, the Sweet Potato Chips are my absolute favorite! I tried to savor them, but, well, this is all that's left 🥲
They're not too hard, perfectly sweet, and incredibly delicious. If you're looking for something a bit different from the standard Imokenpi, I highly recommend giving the Sweet Potato Chips a try!

While the packaged Imokenpi can sometimes have a few harder pieces mixed in, the freshly fried version is consistently crispy and perfect.
Honestly, out of all the Imokenpi I've ever tasted, the freshly fried one is hands down the most delicious!
That's why I always make sure to enjoy the fresh, same-day production Imokenpi myself, and only buy the pre-packaged ones as gifts!
3. What Should You Buy at Imoya Kinjiro?
With so many tempting products, it can be tough to decide what to get on your first visit. Here's my cheat sheet:
For immediate enjoyment → Freshly Fried Imokenpi 120g (~4.2 oz) for ~$3
Gifts to take home → Packaged Imokenpi (Special Selection, Shiokenpi, etc.)
Sharing with many → Tsubu Kenpi 4 bags for ~$3
If you love chocolate → TSUBU CHOCO (~$3)
For pure sweet potato flavor → KIRICO Dried Sweet Potato (~$3)
Personally, if it's your first time, I'd recommend grabbing one order of the freshly fried Imokenpi and a bag of the Sweet Potato Chips to suit your personal taste! ♥️
Imoya Kinjiro's Tenjin location moved to East 11, Unit 019, starting October 2, 2026.
They offer a fantastic variety of products, from freshly fried Imokenpi to beautifully packaged souvenirs. Plus, with this relocation, they've added delicious baked sweet potatoes and soft-serve ice cream to their menu!
If you're planning a shopping trip to the Tenjin Underground Mall, be sure to check out their new spot and treat yourself!
