Ijo Galbi Namwon Review: Authentic Black Pork BBQ
Discover Ijo Galbi, a beloved local Korean BBQ gem in Namwon famous for its mouthwatering black pork ribs and sizzling tteokgalbi. Perfect for late-night dining!

On our recent day trip to the historic city of Namwon,
my friends and I had one ultimate goal:
to fit in three epic, local meals!
After spending a gorgeous afternoon near Gwanghanru Garden,
snacking on local pastries paired with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc,
we were almost too full for dinner.
But my friend was absolutely determined to end our trip with some authentic Korean BBQ.
That’s how we ended up at Ijo Galbi, a highly recommended local gem.

Ijo Galbi Menu & Prices
Black Pork Ribs (1 portion): ~$10
Black Pork Belly (1 portion): ~$12
Handmade Tteokgalbi (Grilled Short Rib Patties): ~$10
We ordered two portions of the marinated black pork ribs
and one portion of their handmade tteokgalbi.
We also participated in a local review event
to score a refreshing bowl of cold naengmyeon noodles for dessert!

Our marinated black pork ribs arrived alongside fresh mushrooms.
To be honest, I usually prefer unseasoned cuts like pork belly
over sweet, marinated meats.
But since Ijo Galbi is famous for its seasoned pork and tteokgalbi,
I was excited to see what the hype was about!

One of the biggest advantages of this spot
is its late operating hours.
In smaller, historic towns like Namwon, many restaurants close early.
Finding a quality K-BBQ spot open until 9:00 PM is a huge win!
While we were dining, a large family walked in,
mentioning they had searched everywhere for a late-night dinner option.
They were so relieved to find this place open and welcoming!

The interior is very spacious with plenty of tables,
making it perfect for large families or groups.
On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive.

Even though there were only three of us,
they generously set up two large baskets of fresh wrapping greens.
The side dishes (banchan) looked amazing—
seasoned bean sprouts, spicy cucumber salad, pickled radish,
garlic, ssamjang, and their signature dipping sauce.

While the black pork was delicious,
it tasted somewhat similar to the high-quality K-BBQ we have in Seoul.
It might not blow your mind if you're used to gourmet city dining,
but the incredible travel atmosphere and local charm
definitely added a special touch to the meal!
Sometimes, the best seasoning is the travel experience itself.

My friends started grilling the meat to perfection.
I happily took a couple of juicy bites as they cooked...

We also enjoyed the warm soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae)
and the crisp cucumber salad to balance out the rich meat.

Then, the handmade tteokgalbi arrived on a sizzling hot plate.
It was thick, juicy, and laid over a bed of shredded cabbage.
We were so full that we could only manage a few bites,
but once I got back home, I deeply regretted not packing the rest!
I ended up just picking at the cabbage underneath because I was so stuffed.

Thanks to the generous review event, we scored a free bowl of cold noodles!
It was the perfect, refreshing way to cleanse our palates after the rich BBQ.
With our bellies full, we caught a quick taxi to Namwon KTX Station.
The owner mentioned that local buses run quite late to the station,
but since we had heavy bags and a train to catch, a quick cab ride was the perfect choice.
If you're looking for a cozy, reliable, and delicious meal in Namwon, definitely check out Ijo Galbi!
