Hue Cafe Roastery Thao Dien Review: Best Salt Coffee

April 30th is a major public holiday in Vietnam

known as Reunification Day,

marking the historic end of the Vietnam War

and the unification of the North and South.

With International Workers' Day right after on May 1st,

it makes for a perfect, relaxing long weekend!

After waking up late, I went out hoping to grab a bowl of pho,

but almost everything was closed for the holiday.

I ended up grabbing a quick burger instead

and then headed straight to this cozy cafe I've been wanting to try.

Located just a 5-minute walk past

the popular Cong Caphe in Thao Dien,

you will find this charming, intimate roastery.

I passed by several massive, flashy cafes on the way,

but I always prefer these smaller neighborhood spots.

Even if the seating is a bit snug and it is not icy cold,

this local, rustic vibe is exactly my style.

Salt Coffee: 45,000 VND (~$2)

Hue Smoothie: 55,000 VND (~$2)

This tropical smoothie was an absolute hit!

It is a refreshing blend of coconut, mango, and passion fruit.

It was so delicious that on our way home,

we seriously debated buying a blender.

Since we buy smoothies at least three times a week,

making them at home with fresh market fruit

might actually be a great idea!

They even serve alcoholic beverages!

They have two air conditioning units, though they are not super powerful.

However, the ceiling fans do a great job of keeping the space comfortable.

Just a heads up: the wooden seats can get a bit warm after a while!

This place seems highly popular for solo visitors.

Many people were here alone, working on laptops or scrolling through their phones.

We ended up switching seats a couple of times

just to find the breeziest spot under the fans!

According to Google Maps, this is a highly rated neighborhood spot.

When the indoor seating fills up, they unstack the yellow plastic stools

so customers can sit outside along the street and enjoy their coffee—

a classic Vietnamese sidewalk cafe experience!

The window view with lush green leaves and flowers is absolutely beautiful.

When we first arrived, the place was packed with patrons.

A very lively local crowd!

The Wi-Fi password is hand-written on this cute chalkboard.

It looked so charming that we wanted to get one

to write down the Wi-Fi details for guests at our Airbnb!

This spot is famous for both salt coffee and egg coffee.

Even without looking at the reviews, I immediately went for the salt coffee.

It was perfectly savory, sweet, and rich.

At other cafes, salt coffee is often just a standard Vienna coffee

topped with a layer of salted cream.

But here, it feels like a beautifully blended, sweet-and-salty iced latte.

Hue Cafe Roastery in Thao Dien is a fantastic find.

The coffee is exceptional, and the cozy, laid-back atmosphere is perfect.

I will definitely be heading back during the week to get some work done!
