Budget-Friendly Stay in Ximending:
Hotel Puri Ximen
By Global Explorer
For the final two days of our Taipei adventure, we decided to base ourselves at a budget-friendly hotel in Ximending.
Because Taiwan boasts a high standard of living, hotels in central Taipei can actually be quite pricey.
If you want to stay out late exploring the street food scene and soaking up the youthful, vibrant energy, Ximen is the place to be. However, accommodations in this specific district are notoriously expensive.
Balancing location and budget, I ultimately chose the Hotel Puri Ximen.
Today, I'm sharing my honest, hands-on review of our stay at Hotel Puri Ximen to help you plan your 2026 Taipei itinerary!
1. Why Choose Hotel Puri Ximen?
When hunting for downtown Taipei accommodations, I strictly focused on two main criteria:
My Taipei Hotel Checklist:
1. Walking distance to Ximen Station
2. Priced around ~$77 per night
The one spot that perfectly checked both boxes was Hotel Puri Ximen.

As you can see from the map, it's literally just one block away from Ximen Station.
It's perfectly situated right across from the iconic Ximen Red House, the Taipei Rainbow Crossing, and countless incredible local eateries. Location-wise, it's unbeatable.
Plus, since the area is bustling with foot traffic late into the night, it feels incredibly safe.

2. Hotel Information

The exterior might look a little dated at first glance.
Because many buildings in Taiwan are older, you have to expect a slightly vintage vibe.
Our local guide explained that downtown buildings were originally constructed with heavy earthquake-resistant designs, making them incredibly sturdy. As a result, developers rarely tear them down for total reconstruction.

Tucked away in an alley just a stone's throw from Ximen Station, it's surprisingly quiet in the mornings.
By evening, though, the area comes alive with popular bars and restaurants right next door.
3. Lobby & Facilities

The lobby carries that same slightly retro aesthetic, but it is kept impeccably clean.
Given its unbeatable location and price point, the hotel is almost always fully booked by nightfall.

In the lobby, guests have access to a toaster, microwave, water dispenser, cups, and tea.
This is super handy if you're bringing back takeout or grabbing a late-night bite from a nearby convenience store.

They offer luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out.
They securely tag your bags (like the one shown on the left), so you can explore the city worry-free.

The hotel even runs a free souvenir delivery service for tourists!
If your itinerary is too packed for shopping, this is a fantastic perk to take advantage of.
4. Room Condition

The room itself isn't massive.
With a bed and a table taking up the center space, it's very comparable in size to a standard Japanese business hotel.

I loved that there were small nightstands on both sides of the bed.
Combined with the fridge and a larger desk, there was plenty of surface area to unpack our daily essentials.

You can hang your clothes on the provided rack next to the mirror, and there's even a small drying rack if you need to wash any light items during your stay.
5. In-Room Amenities

The room includes an electric kettle, hairdryer, mugs, slippers, disposable toothbrushes, tea, and bottled water.
You can easily refill your water bottles at the first-floor dispenser.
The mini-fridge was empty upon arrival. Keep in mind that like most hotel mini-fridges, it doesn't get icy cold, but it works fine for keeping drinks chilled.
6. Bathroom Setup

The bathroom layout is highly practical: the sink, shower, and toilet are all separated.
This makes it super easy for two people to get ready at the same time! The toilet stall is a bit snug, though.

They provide two bath towels and two face towels, which is standard for most hotels.

The shower is stocked with body wash and shampoo.
As is common in Taiwan, conditioner is not provided, so I highly recommend packing travel-sized conditioner from home.
7. Final Thoughts

In the past, I used to book hotels purely based on the cheapest price, even if it meant a long walk to the station.
But the more I travel, the more I realize that location is everything.
For a budget stay in Taipei's Ximending, Hotel Puri Ximen boasts a truly unbeatable location
and the price point is incredibly reasonable.
While the overall decor leans a bit retro, I was impressed by how meticulously clean and well-managed the interior is compared to the older facade.
If you're looking for an affordable, comfortable stay right next to Ximen Station, I can't recommend Hotel Puri Ximen enough.
