Hotel Mei: A Trendy & Budget-Friendly Boutique Stay
By Global Explorer
I recently took a 3-day, 2-night couples trip to Fukuoka with my boyfriend ❤️
If you're looking for a stylish, modern, and budget-friendly hotel near Tenjin,
look no further.
I highly recommend Hotel Mei!
With a highly-rated breakfast, spotless rooms,
and a trendy Brooklyn-esque aesthetic, it checks all the boxes.
It offers incredible value for the price point,
making it a favorite among savvy travelers.
One of my absolute favorite features? The rooms have hardwood floors instead of standard hotel carpets.
It completely eliminates dust worries
and makes the space feel so much fresher!
1. Hotel Basic Information

Hotel Name: Hotel Mei |
Room Type: Standard Room |
Address: 2-16-19 Haruyoshi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, 810-0003 |
Location: Near Tenjin, Fukuoka |
Rating: 4-Star |
Check-in/Check-out: 3:00 PM / 10:00 AM |
Highlights: 7-Eleven across the street, aesthetic cafe breakfast |
At around ~$77 per night for two people,
it's an incredibly reasonable price
especially considering current travel costs in Japan!

There is a 7-Eleven
directly across the street,
which was absolutely perfect for
grabbing late-night snacks and drinks!
2. Location
📍 Hotel Mei
2 Chome-16-19 Haruyoshi, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0003 Japan
We took an Uber
straight from the airport,
which took about 20 minutes.
If you're using public transit,
it's conveniently close to Tenjin, Tenjin-Minami,
Yakuin, and Watanabe-dori stations!
It's just a 7-minute walk to Canal City Hakata,
and a 15-minute walk to Hakata Station.
The location is truly unbeatable.
Being right in the heart of the Tenjin area
means shopping, incredible restaurants, and cafe hopping
are right at your doorstep~

📍 Kego Shrine
2 Chome-2-20 Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0001 Japan
The highly popular Blue Bottle Coffee at Kego Shrine
is also within walking distance,
making it a great starting point for a morning coffee run!
3. Room Review: A Top Pick in Tenjin
Hotel Mei offers 9 different room types,
including a lavish Penthouse and even rooms with private saunas!
We opted for the most budget-friendly option:
The Standard Room for two.
Standard Room
Occupancy: 2 Guests
Size: ~150 sq ft (14m²)
Remodeled in 2019,
the hotel boasts a clean, modern interior,
and the hygiene standards are impeccable.
While 150 sq ft might sound compact,
the layout is so smartly designed
that it felt surprisingly spacious.

Even with our 24-inch and 28-inch
suitcases fully opened,
we had plenty of room to walk around!
As someone with mild allergies,
I'm not a fan of traditional hotel carpets.
The hardwood floors here were a massive plus
as they kept the air dust-free!
If you're traveling with kids,
this is definitely a reassuring feature.

Instead of a bulky closet,
they utilize an open hanging rack,
which really helps maximize the room's square footage.

There's a full-length mirror on the wall,
perfect for those final outfit checks before heading out.

A small table at the foot of the bed
was incredibly useful for eating late-night ramen
and getting ready in the morning!

The room comes fully stocked with amenities:
mugs, an electric kettle, cozy pajamas, fabric refresher,
a hair dryer, and disposable toothbrushes.
We didn't lack a single thing.

The AC, TV, and mini-fridge
all worked perfectly.

When we left the "Do Not Disturb" sign
on our door, we returned to find
fresh towels neatly packed in a bag
and hung on our doorknob. Such a thoughtful touch!
4. Bathroom & Shower

As is common with Japanese city hotels,
the shower room is on the smaller side.
However, the water pressure was excellent.
I even used a travel shower filter, and to my surprise,
the filter color barely changed over our
entire stay—the water quality is great!
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are
provided in eco-friendly refillable dispensers.
5. Breakfast Cafe

Another huge highlight of Hotel Mei is the
gorgeous cafe on the first floor, where breakfast is served!

The morning sunlight pouring in creates such a beautiful vibe.
It's actually a hotspot among locals, and many people
visit just for the cafe itself, even if they aren't staying at the hotel.

During our stay, the breakfast options included
aesthetic fruit sandos (sandwiches), acai bowls, and blue bowls.
You get to choose one main dish plus a drink
per person. It was absolutely delicious!
Totally hits that trendy, Instagram-worthy aesthetic.
6. Who Should Stay Here?
Couples looking for a romantic yet affordable getaway, solo travelers wanting a safe and stylish base, and anyone who appreciates a good aesthetic cafe right downstairs!
7. Final Thoughts

Our stay at Hotel Mei in Tenjin
completely exceeded our expectations.
Between the spotless and stylish rooms,
the unbeatable location, the delicious breakfast,
and the incredibly welcoming staff, it was flawless.
And at around ~$77 per night,
the value is hard to beat.
If you're planning a trip to Fukuoka,
especially a couples getaway,
I highly recommend booking Hotel Mei
near Tenjin!
The pristine conditions, trendy design,
and top-notch service will definitely win you over.
