Planning a trip to Shanghai in 2026?
You might have already noticed that hotel prices here can be surprisingly steep!
Shanghai is notoriously one of China's most expensive cities,
which can quickly eat right into your travel budget.
But don't worry! Today, I'm sharing my personal review of an incredibly cost-effective hidden gem,
Hotel Fish Inn East Nanjing Road!

Check-in: 2:00 PM Check-out: 12:00 PM Location: No.4, Lane 74, Ningbo Road, Huangpu, Shanghai
|
I chose this specific hotel for four main reasons:
📌 Why Book Hotel Fish Inn East Nanjing Road? |
1. Just a 5-minute walk to the subway 2. Walking distance to major attractions 3. Exceptionally safe neighborhood 4. Unbeatable value for money |
Hotel Fish Inn East Nanjing Road is located
barely a 5-minute walk from East Nanjing Road Station
on Metro Line 2.
Line 2 is essentially Shanghai's golden tourist route, connecting you directly to
Lujiazui, People's Square, and Jing'an Temple without any transfers.
It's the core transit line for visitors,
and having it right on your doorstep is incredibly convenient!
Plus, iconic landmarks like The Bund and the East Nanjing Road pedestrian street
are easily within walking distance—about a half-mile stroll!
If you're flying into Pudong International Airport
and taking the Maglev train into the city,
the Maglev transfer point, Longyang Road Station,
is also on Line 2, making your arrival day incredibly smooth.

Tucked just one block away from the bustling main street,
the area feels incredibly secure.
I never once felt unsafe, making it a fantastic option for solo travelers too!

Instead of a massive storefront on the main road,
the entrance is hidden down a small alleyway accessed through a main gate.
If it's your first time visiting, keep an eye out for the
'gate' pictured above—it makes finding the hotel a breeze.

The lobby has a cozy, welcoming guesthouse vibe
rather than a sterile corporate hotel feel.
There are plenty of chairs and sofas to relax on after a long day of exploring.
They even have a designated spot for package deliveries right at the entrance,
which is super handy if you plan on ordering late-night takeout!

Don't forget your passport for check-in!
The evening staff spoke basic English,
so communication was smooth and hassle-free.

We were assigned to the Basic Double Room, Room 303.
Right inside the door is a full-length mirror,
which is always a nice touch for a quick outfit check before heading out.

The room features a king-size bed, a small sofa, a coffee table,
a desk, and an en-suite bathroom.
While the square footage isn't massive, we had plenty of room
to comfortably open two small carry-on suitcases.

The bed was surprisingly plush,
offering plenty of space for two people to stretch out.
My absolute favorite part of the room was having that
cozy sofa and small table right by the window.
One of the best parts of traveling is indulging in late-night local snacks, right?
Having a dedicated spot to sit and eat made our evenings so much better.

In terms of room amenities, you'll find the essentials: the table and chairs, an electric kettle,
complimentary bottled water, disposable toothbrushes, and a mini-fridge.
Since this is a budget-friendly option,
they keep the extras minimal, but it's everything you truly need.

The mini-fridge is small but definitely came in handy.
The wardrobe held hangers, a safe, and extra bedding,
though we didn't end up needing the extra blankets.

The bathroom was actually quite spacious compared to the bedroom,
featuring a combined shower and sink area.

They provide basic shampoo and body wash,
but there is no hair conditioner, so I highly recommend packing your own!
Overall, Hotel Fish Inn East Nanjing Road
exceeded my expectations in terms of location, room quality, and safety.
It's an incredibly satisfying stay for the price point.
Whether you're looking for a convenient spot for your first night in Shanghai
or a budget-friendly basecamp with incredible access to major attractions,
I can't recommend this place enough!
