And we found a fantastic place just like that at Gurney Plaza!

Let me introduce you to

HOOGA, a brand bursting with cozy Scandinavian vibes.

What is HOOGA all about?

HOOGA is

a Nordic-inspired home furnishing brand that started in Singapore

and has become immensely popular

in Malaysia.

Its name is actually inspired by

the Danish word 'Hygge',

which represents coziness and comfort.

It beautifully blends

minimalist Nordic design with

the practical needs of Southeast Asian living.

What's really impressive is their selection of materials,

specifically chosen to suit warm and humid climates.

HOOGA Locations

There are two

HOOGA locations right here in Penang.

One is at Gurney Plaza (where I visited),

and the other is at Queensbay Mall in the south.

Their opening hours align with the operating hours of each mall.

Exploring the Store

Located on the 3rd floor of Gurney Plaza,

the HOOGA store is beautifully arranged

with a clean, cozy, and charming aesthetic.

The eye-catching display right at the entrance is so welcoming,

and it changes with new seasonal themes throughout the year.

The store is divided into different zones—living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom—

making it super easy and pleasant to browse.

One thing that really stood out to me

was the large, dedicated section

just for diffusers and home fragrances.

It felt like stepping into a boutique perfumery—

so elegant and neatly organized,

it was a total joy to explore!

The absolute crowd-pleasers here

are their bedding collections.

Featuring soft pastel tones and subtle, elegant patterns,

their cool, breathable duvet and pillow covers

are specially designed for Malaysia’s tropical heat,

making them incredibly popular.

They also have incredibly cute fabric products for kids

and adorable home decor accessories that are hard to resist!

Highly Recommended Items

Although I couldn't capture them in a photo,

their towels are highly recommended

and extremely popular among local homemakers.

Made of 100% pure cotton,

they are incredibly absorbent

and hold up beautifully without pilling, even after many washes.

Decorative items like frames and clocks often featured

unique yet modern designs, making me want to buy quite a few products.

There were also many great objects

perfect for adorning your table as decorations.

The place I enjoyed browsing the most was

the kitchenware section.

You can find dishes, cups, and other items that are simple yet incorporate design elements,

all at reasonable prices.

Why is it that no matter how many cups I buy, I always want more?

There were so many uniquely designed cups that I found myself coveting quite a few.

Among the kitchen accessories,

I highly recommend their wooden cutlery and ceramic dishes.

The natural wood grain and matte ceramics

pair beautifully with any table setting.

The small bowl set, in particular,

is said to be very popular among Koreans for serving sauces or side dishes.

Lighting products are also

a hidden gem at HOOGA.

Their LED mood lights create a cozy atmosphere with their warm hues

and are rechargeable, so you can even use them outdoors.

The table lamps feature simple designs that fit in anywhere,

making them especially perfect for a desk or bedside table.

Price Range and Shopping Tips

HOOGA's prices fall into the

mid-low to mid-high range.

Small decorative items start from about 10 MYR,

while bedding can be purchased for around 100-300 MYR.

During off-season periods,

you can also find 30-50% discounts, so

if you time your visit right,

you can shop even more affordably!

Overall Review

What makes HOOGA so appealing is that you can discover

practical products with Nordic designs

at reasonable prices.

It's not located right in Georgetown city center,

so you don't necessarily have to make a special trip, but

I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

If you pick out a small item from this place you discovered during your travels
