But in reality, when you get there, it's just overflowing with people,
and your day can easily disappear just by waiting in lines at quite a few of them.
After living in Hong Kong for over a month – ten times and counting!
I’ve learned to tell my friends to absolutely skip
these popular tourist spots and remove them from their itinerary.
Especially if you're on a short trip, say 2 nights/3 days or 3 nights/4 days,
knowing what to cut is absolutely crucial!
Today, as someone who’s explored Hong Kong countless times,
I'll share 3 famous Hong Kong attractions that are popular, but you can definitely skip,
and even better, I'll tell you where to go instead!

You go to see the night view from the Avenue of Stars,
catch the Symphony of Lights,
and snap that perfect, once-in-a-lifetime shot.
But honestly, these days, I tend to skip it.
Especially if you go in the evening,
it's truly swarming with people.
You might try to capture just one photo,
but it often feels like you're just there to watch the crowds.
The railings along the Avenue of Stars are already packed,
people constantly brush past you from behind,
and it's much more chaotic than you'd imagine.
What's more, the Symphony of Lights itself,
isn't exactly a show you need to carve out time to see.
It's more like something to casually catch if you happen to be passing by.
And if you visit in summer?
The combination of humidity, heat, and massive crowds
will drain your energy much faster than you anticipate.
So, if you're keen on seeing a spectacular night view,
I recommend avoiding the 8 PM Symphony of Lights show
and head to the Avenue of Stars at another time!
The view, I must admit, is undeniably beautiful.
Even I initially thought
the Avenue of Stars was the #1 recommended spot for any Hong Kong trip.
But after countless visits, I realized
there were other places that offered an even more satisfying experience.
👉 Instead of the main Avenue of Stars, head towards Aqualuna Pier No. 1,
where you'll find far fewer people.

and it’s a perfect spot to sit back and truly soak in the nightscape.
It surprisingly has a local vibe, with many residents enjoying evening strolls,
giving you a taste of everyday Hong Kong life.

But honestly, a daytime visit? Not so much.
It's one of the biggest rookie mistakes first-time Hong Kong visitors make.
Especially if you venture there on a hot day,
you'll find your energy draining fast just standing in line.
The real kicker is that the wait time is much longer than you'd imagine.
During peak season, it's not uncommon for the Hong Kong Peak Tram queue alone to stretch past two hours!
But what's even more disappointing is reaching the top after all that effort,
only for your first thought to be:
Ugh... it's so hazy?
If it's foggy or hazy,
the view won't quite match those stunning photos you've seen.
And here's a crucial tip:
if you miss that perfect window just before sunset,
your overall satisfaction with the Hong Kong Peak Tram experience will plummet.
Daytime can be a bit 'meh,'
and once it's completely dark, the cityscape takes on a whole different vibe.
Having visited countless times, I've learned one thing:
the Peak is absolutely at its most stunning during that magical transition from sunset to nightscape.
However, that golden hour is, naturally, peak time.
Since everyone wants to be there,
