Where to Stay in Hong Kong: Top Accommodation Spots
Next, let's dive into the best areas for you to consider
when booking your Hong Kong accommodation.

Hong Kong is actually made up of over 200 islands! But for travelers,
the two primary areas to consider for accommodation are
Kowloon Peninsula (north of the harbor) and Hong Kong Island (south).
On the Kowloon side, Tsim Sha Tsui is a popular hotspot,
while over on Hong Kong Island, Sheung Wan is often the top pick.
Between these two, I personally found staying near Sheung Wan
to be much more convenient.

My reason? While Tsim Sha Tsui boasts endless shopping and a huge crowd,
it's precisely that high population density that can feel a bit overwhelming.
The main streets of Tsim Sha Tsui can get incredibly crowded,
which I found a bit chaotic.

Sheung Wan, however, offers a relatively lower population density and felt
more convenient for reaching fantastic photo spots like Kennedy Town.
Of course, Hong Kong isn't a huge place, so most attractions are
just a few subway stops away, no matter where you stay.
That's why I opted for accommodation in Sheung Wan,
escaping the bustling crowds of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Top Value Hotels in Hong Kong's Sheung Wan (Two Picks!)

Up next, I'm going to recommend two value-for-money hotels
I stayed at in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong!
Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan
Check-in/Check-out | Check-in: 2:00 PM~ Check-out: ~12:00 PM |
Location | 5-minute walk from Sheung Wan Station |
Room Types | Queen, Twin (Ocean View, Harbor View) |
Accommodation Price Range | Weekdays: mid ~$110s Weekends: mid ~$180s |
Highlights | Near A11 bus stop for the airport |
The first hotel is Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan,
and it's super conveniently located, just about a 5-minute walk from Sheung Wan Station.
The location is fantastic!

As a globally recognized brand hotel,
it was bustling with people from all over, both East and West,
and the interior was impeccably clean and well-maintained.

While the rooms aren't huge, they are spotless,
and the layout is so well-designed that
there's still a decent amount of usable space.
Plus, with a desk and a sofa chair at the table,
it was perfect for two of us to enjoy a late-night snack.

The bathroom layout was a bit unique,
with the corner having a slightly angled design.
But despite that, it had all the essentials:
a toilet, sink, and shower.

The main reason I chose Ibis Sheung Wan out of many hotels was
for its stunning harbor view.
For just about ~$8 more than a standard room,
you can enjoy a room with a beautiful harbor view,
making it incredibly good value for money!

The night view from the room was also quite impressive.
While the famous view is typically looking at Hong Kong Island from Kowloon Peninsula,
the reverse, looking towards Tsim Sha Tsui from Hong Kong Island,
was also pretty spectacular.
I booked this hotel for a family trip with my parents,
and for us, cleanliness and a great view were top priorities.
This hotel perfectly met those expectations!
If you book through the link below, you can apply the
discount code I mentioned earlier!

EcoTree Hotel Sheung Wan
Check-in/Check-out | Check-in: 3:00 PM~ Check-out: ~11:00 AM |
Location | Right next to Sai Ying Pun Station Exit A2 |
Room Types | Superior, Deluxe City, Deluxe Sea, Suite |
Accommodation Price Range | Weekdays: mid ~$110s Weekends: from late ~$130s |
Highlights | Area where you can enjoy a much more local atmosphere |
The second value-for-money hotel I recommend is
EcoTree Hotel Sheung Wan.

Although it's just one subway stop away from Sheung Wan,
it's right next to Sai Ying Pun MTR Station,
making its transportation convenience extremely high!

And Sai Ying Pun had a much more authentic local vibe compared to other tourist spots in Hong Kong.
For those who love soaking up local culture and authenticity,
this neighborhood's accommodations might just be your perfect match.

Ecotree Hotel's lobby was a little compact,
and there was a small lounge to the left of the lobby.
The building view from the lounge was absolutely stunning!

Our room was perfectly set up with two comfy single beds,
and a small sofa chair was tucked away in one corner.
The beige-toned interior exuded such a warm and inviting atmosphere.

On the other hand, the bathroom was in a considerably brighter beige hue,
and generally felt impeccably clean and fresh throughout.
There was a separate shower stall,
and the toilet and sink were conveniently located beside it.

What I personally loved about the hotel room was how it was decorated
with thoughtfully curated, delightful little touches.
It felt less like a hotel and more like a place someone actually lives in,
with the framed picture and brochure on the desk giving it
the charming ambiance of a boutique guesthouse.

The room I booked was a city view room.
Peeking out from behind the curtains by the bed, you can see
the iconic, dazzling high-rises that define Hong Kong's cityscape.

While they weren't luxury buildings, the view perfectly matched the iconic urban cityscape
of Hong Kong I had in my mind, so it truly captured my heart.
(I was even more satisfied with this view than a harbor or ocean view!)
This is a fantastic choice for anyone craving an authentic local atmosphere,
or who, as you've seen in the photos, appreciates Ecotree Hotel's distinctive, stylish ambiance.
