After a pleasant 10-15 minute walk (roughly 0.5-0.75 miles) from MTR Central Station, I arrived at the Peak Tram Lower Terminus.
My plan was to experience both the daytime scenery and the spectacular night views, so I arrived around 5:00 PM, just before sunset.
📍
Peak Tram Essentials
• Operating Hours: Daily 7:30 AM - 11:00 PM
• Sky Terrace 428 Observation Deck: Daily 8:30 AM - 10:00 PM
• Tickets: Peak Tram only ~$15 / (Peak Tram + Sky Terrace 428) ~$23

It seems everyone had the same brilliant idea! The crowds were immense, and the queue for the tram felt like it stretched for ages.
Given how busy it gets, I highly recommend booking your tram and observation deck tickets in advance! I purchased a round-trip tram ticket combined with Sky Terrace 428 admission, making sure to check the weather closer to my travel date.
Currently, KKday is offering up to 50% off Hong Kong attractions.
Sky Terrace admission starts from around ~$9, and the Peak Tram + Sky Terrace combo can be booked for as low as ~$15-19. If you're planning a trip to Hong Kong, securing these tickets beforehand is a must!
Beyond the Peak Tram, you can also find discounted bookings for Hong Kong Disneyland, round-trip ferries between Hong Kong and Macau, Octopus Cards, and more – basically everything you need for your Hong Kong and Macau adventure. Don't miss out on these savings!

And then, we were finally on our way up! The incline of the tram is quite steep – much more than I expected, which added to the excitement.

As we ascended, the incredible Hong Kong skyscraper jungle came into view. It's truly fascinating to see such towering high-rises right next to the ocean!

Even from this brief climb, the expansive, open views were absolutely fantastic.

Next, we headed up to the observation deck. You'll need to scan your QR code one more time before entering the Sky Terrace 428. This is where you get the most incredible, unobstructed views of Hong Kong, so definitely make sure to include it in your visit!

For October 2026, sunset occurs around 6:00 PM. Keep in mind that it doesn't get completely dark immediately after 5:55 PM; you'll need to wait another 30 minutes or so for the full night view to emerge.
As you can see from the photo above, it gets incredibly crowded, so I highly recommend arriving early, well before sunset, to secure a good spot!

Finally, the majestic Hong Kong night view unfolded before my eyes!

The cityscape twinkling before me was so incredibly beautiful that I simply stood there, mesmerized, for a long time.
It's truly stunning, isn't it? Once the sun sets, it can get a bit chilly up there, possibly dropping into the low 70s or high 60s Fahrenheit. I recommend bringing a light long-sleeved jacket or windbreaker.
You'll want to linger and soak in this gorgeous night view for as long as possible! ✨

And now, it was time to head back down.

Oh my goodness, look at this! 😱 The crowds were absolutely massive for the descent! It seems everyone had the same idea to stay for the night view.
I ended up waiting for about an hour and a half to get back down.
Even with the significant crowds, the Hong Kong Peak Tram was absolutely worth the wait. 💛
Make sure to snag that 50% discount and enjoy the beautiful Hong Kong nightscape for yourself! :-)
