Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng: Top 6 Value Eats Under ~$11 (2026)
Craving authentic Hong Kong flavors without breaking the bank? Explore our top 6 Cha Chaan Teng picks, where you can enjoy delicious local meals for under ~$11 in 2026!
The biggest worry when traveling to Hong Kong is definitely the travel expenses.
Hong Kong can be quite pricey.
And with the exchange rate climbing, it's even more of a burden now.
Spend confidently when you need to, and save wisely when you can!
Today, I've rounded up some great value-for-money restaurants, including Hong Kong Cha Chaan Tengs, with prices ranging between ~$6 and ~$11.

1. Café de Coral, Kai Hin Cha Chaan Teng
Café de Coral, 大家樂

Kai Hin Cha Chaan Teng is one of the largest fast-food chains in Hong Kong.
They offer a variety of Chinese and Western fusion dishes at affordable prices.
It's a quintessential Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng restaurant.
So, what exactly is a Cha Chaan Teng?

A Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐廳) is a unique type of restaurant in Hong Kong.
It's a casual eatery where Hong Kong locals often go.
The word 'Cha' (茶), meaning tea, in its name is a hint.
It's a place that offers simple meals centered around tea, along with a variety of beverages.
You can enjoy various meal options from morning till evening, and many places sell rice + tea as a set.
So, shall we take a look at the recommended menu items at Café de Coral, a Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng?

In my opinion, this menu offers incredible value.
It's a fulfilling combination that includes pork and chicken steak, spiral fries, grilled vegetables, and even soup!
The price is HKD 64, which is about ~$8, and the discounted price is HKD 54-59 (about ~$7).

The seafood soup that comes with it is especially delicious!
You can also choose a salad instead of the seafood soup.
Beyond that, all the basic menu items are very affordable.
They even recently launched a roasted chicken and egg tart set, which was surprisingly good!
Most set meals are under ~$15, offering fantastic value.
Here's an extra discount hack!
In Hong Kong, if you download their apps, they often give out various coupons.
When you sign up as a new member, you typically receive 6 HKD 5 coupons that can be used for dinner and tea time!

These apps only require a Hong Kong phone number.
When traveling to Hong Kong, it's essential to buy a local SIM card instead of roaming!
There are so many membership programs available in Hong Kong.
Prepare a SIM/eSIM in advance – it's much cheaper and offers better connectivity than roaming!

Café de Coral has so many branches; you can find them in almost every neighborhood.
2. Men Wah Bing Teng
Men Wah Bing Teng, 敏華冰廳

This is one of my favorite Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng spots.
It's a Cha Chaan Teng restaurant that a local Hong Kong friend introduced me to.
I highly recommend visiting Men Wah Bing Teng at lunchtime.
That's because the menu changes between lunch and dinner.
Plus, their lunch sets offer incredibly good value for money.
Even the most expensive lunch set is HKD 75 (about ~$9), which is fantastic value.

I have two recommended dishes for you!
First up is the Pork BBQ Rice, shown in the picture above.
At HKD 75, it's the most expensive among the lunch sets, but even that is under ~$15.
Considering Hong Kong prices, it's excellent value!
And the taste is superb.

Next up is the Pork Steak.
The green condiment next to it is a ginger sauce, commonly found in Hong Kong.
It pairs wonderfully with both the pork and the rice.
As soon as you get your food, point to the sauce and say 'More, more!' to ask for extra!
Both are incredibly delicious, so I recommend ordering one of each to share with your travel companions.
Any downsides?
Google Lens needed for ordering!

Unfortunately, most Hong Kong Cha Chaan Tengs are local eateries, which can make ordering a bit tricky for tourists.
One downside here is that when you order via QR code, English isn't an option.
Google Lens is a must-have.
Because there are often many options to choose from.
I take a screenshot, translate it with Google Lens, and then place my order.

Google Lens is essential in Hong Kong.
That's because ChatGPT is blocked in Hong Kong.
I've tried several apps, but the completely free Google Lens is the best.
I use Google Lens for photo translation and Papago for spoken communication.
English isn't as widely spoken as you might think, so make sure to install it beforehand!

The chicken wings on the side are delicious too.
I don't think I've ever had a bad chicken wing experience in Hong Kong!

By the way, they also sell a lot of bread here.
I only tried the egg tarts, and they were really disappointing.
Don't bother trying them.
I was curious because it was my first time seeing white egg tarts, so I tried one yellow and one white one.
Both were pretty bad.
For egg tarts, Bakehouse is definitely the best.
3. Yoshinoya (吉野家)
It's a Japanese fast-food chain!
It's especially famous for its beef bowls, and the food comes out super fast!
You can even swap your drink for miso soup, which is a great option.

Hong Kong has many noodle shops, but places that serve both rice and soup together are quite rare.
If you're craving both rice and soup, you'll usually have to look for Korean or Japanese cuisine.
And Japanese food in Hong Kong tends to be quite expensive.
That's where Yoshinoya comes in, offering surprisingly good value for money.

Here too, you can sign up for membership with your phone number and get discounts!
Plus, if you write a receipt review, you can get a HKD5 discount on your next visit.
Make sure to take advantage of those membership benefits!

The recommended menu item is the Wagyu beef bowl.
With a membership, it's HKD 73 (around ~$9), and without, it's HKD 78.
I always ask to swap the drink for miso soup.

You can also order yourself at the kiosk.
Kiosks don't accept credit cards unless they support tap-to-pay.
However, you can pay with an Octopus Card.
Be sure to prepare an Octopus Card, it's an absolute must-have in Hong Kong!
What is an Octopus Card?
Unfortunately, most affordable restaurants in Hong Kong don't accept credit cards.
They accept Octopus Cards, which are similar to Korea's T-Money system.
It's a card you can top up at convenience stores and use.
So many places don't take credit cards, so you absolutely need to have one ready.
It's a versatile card you can use almost everywhere – for public transport, dining, shopping, and more.

4. Geylang
It's a fantastic Singaporean restaurant located in Wan Chai.

I visit often because it offers great value and a wide variety of dishes.
However, it's not a franchise, so you'll only find it in Wan Chai.

If you're nearby, definitely give it a try.
They have discounted set menus available not just for lunch, but all day long.

It's affordable, in the HKD 50-70 range, which is approximately ~$6 to ~$7.
📍 Geylang
Tin Lok Building, G/F, 221A Wan Chai Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
Opening Hours: 11:30 AM ~ 10:00 PM
Address: Wan Chai, Wan Chai Rd, 221A

The recommended menu item is the Lemongrass Grilled Chicken.
The perfectly crispy grilled chicken is truly exceptional.
If you're visiting with companions, I recommend one person orders a soup dish and another orders a rice dish.
It's a shame that the rice dishes don't come with soup.

5. TamJai SamGor Mixian
A noodle chain where you can customize your dish to your personal taste!
They offer a wide variety of soup bases, and you can even adjust the spice level.

But the real star here isn't the noodles; it's the chicken wings that you can order as a side.
These chicken wings, sprinkled with black sesame seeds, are so good you could eat ten by yourself and still not get tired of them!

Even though I'm not a huge fan of noodles, I find myself coming back often just for these chicken wings.
Five chicken wings cost HKD 36, which is about ~$4.
Considering the size, it might not be the absolute best value, but they are incredibly delicious!

Noodle prices usually range from HKD 40 to 70 (approximately ~$4 to ~$7).

Address: There are many branches all over Hong Kong!
Opening Hours: 11:00 AM ~ 10:00 PM
Membership discounts are also available!

They offer various discount coupons when you sign up for a new membership.
You can conveniently order by scanning the QR code at your table with their app!
6. Istanbul Express

A place where you can enjoy Turkish cuisine like kebabs, doner wraps, and more.
They also have many menu items featuring rice and salad, making it a great choice for those looking for healthy meal options.

For a recommended dish, you can't go wrong with the classic Döner Kebab!
It's a Turkish kebab with seasoned meat wrapped in pita bread, served with fresh vegetables.
The fries are also absolutely delicious.
Lunch price HKD 80, about ~$9.

Next up is the Grilled Cod, which was right up my alley.
It's one of my absolute favorite dishes.
The combination of boneless grilled cod with rice and salad is simply perfect.
You can even swap out the rice for fries.
Lunch price HKD 95, about ~$12.
